Review: Emotional Story Full Of Twists And Turns - Amazing game, kept me on the edge of the seat during all 3 games. Well written story, and fun and unique set of characters. Creatively designed murders and mechanics of the game, unlike I have ever seen before. Class trials are also amazing and never dull. And in each game something new is added. Characters are also very well written, forcing you to feel sympathetic for them. Whenever someone died, they always made me cry. Especially V3. Plot twist don't only twist the plot, but they literally twist you too. Soundtrack is so good, it makes you just want to bop your head. Even when you finish the game, (which is about 20 to 30 hours each) there are tons of bonus modes and trophies to achieve, making it have ton of replay value. Even though some trophies are really hard or just require a lot of playthroughs. Currently going for platinum trophy on all games. Definitely 10/10 would recommend to those who wish to solve mysteries and want to experience a story full of twist and turns, emotional roller coasters and love-hate relationships towards characters. Since it is a visual novel there is a lot of reading but fortunately, class trials and CGI events are fully voiced. And game also arrived A WEEK EARLY, even though I chose standard delivery. You also receive a nice, small softcover booklet full of promo art from each game, A.K.A. "The Art of Danganronpa Trilogy". Worth every penny!
Review: Good series, but ends with a weak entry - After playing the Ace Attorney series (which are great) I wanted to try more games with a similar approach to gameplay. Danganronpa was one suggestion that could help with that "itch"... Although, saying that, but the two series are very different in tones and premises. Danganronpa has been around for a long time, so it may appear outdated it in places. That said, I personally find the games great, I'm not really a snob like some are to older games. The premise of these games is you get caught in a killing game, forced upon you and the other characters. Each part of the game includes a murder (or two) and you're stuck having to solve it and bring the murderer to light each time. Gameplay is between exploration and trials. In exploration, you get to explore the area and hang out with other characters, in the trials, all remaining characters come together to mainly argue over who the culprit is so it's your job to steer things into the right direction and expose the killer each time. In some ways though, unlike Ace Attorney where you end up winging it sometimes, in Danganronpa, you have performed your investigation and no exactly what's false and true, you just need to join the dots together. Gameplay wise, yes, highly repetitive. Although, these games are more about the narrative than gameplay so you'd like ignore that if you experience games with visual novel elements. I personally enjoyed the first two games, Trigger Happy Havoc had my favourite characters, while Goodbye Despair also had memorable characters. Both stories are good too and don't head into the absurdity too much (although still not happy with the last trial for D2, devs were mean here! Note: do not get emotionally attached to Danganronpa characters). Now V3: Killing Harmony, for me, wasn't great. By like 2 or 3 characters it just made me feel bored and frustrated most of the time. I won't spoil anything but V3's story twist and conclusion, I disliked A LOT. I can agree with some that it's the worst entry in the series and its twist felt like a massive slap in the face to fans (in my opinion anyway). Also, the other issue with V3 is if you want to fully understand majority of the story and references, you need to go in this order: play Danganronpa 1&2, Ultra Despair Girls (spin-off I enjoyed too) and the anime animation "Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope's Peak High School" (both Despair and Future arcs, which is best watched by going back forth between each one, Future Ep1 and Despair Ep1, then repeat that Eo2, Ep3, etc, until the Hope Arc at the end, it's easier to watch this order via streaming, such as with Crunchyroll that has surprisingly set it up this way). The anime wraps everything up from all the other games nicely... There are some light novels and such to read to fill even further gaps, but the games and anime are the main ones... So then V3 must continue in this long chain of chaos, right? Hmm, V3 makes this massive deal out of the previous entries and media but somewhat fails to deliver a lot of the connections then throws it all together at the end with its absurd and weak twist. V3 would have been better if it was treated as an alternative version than a sequel. I also don't like it when companies go to and fro between mediums to conclude stories, having to go from Game(s)>Anime>Game to fully enjoy the experience is something I don't appreciate in any franchise. Had we ended with the D3 anime, it might not have been so bad, but with such a weak sequel, V3 may have worked better by being the events of the D3 anime instead. So you don't have to do all of what I just said, I'm mainly mentioning for those who like to enjoy being a bit more thorough, the spin-off and D3 anime is helpful but not essential to V3. Spin-off is better to play, or read up its plot online somewhere, for the D3 anime more. Don't be put off by V3, it's still ok and you may enjoy it better than I and some others did, but it's ending twist and then this odd "twist may not be true, but could be true" open ending suggestion is just an odd decision, feels like a set up for a sequel that didn't happen. The series is still great to experience though, don't let my whinging stop you. If you're coming from Ace Attorney like me, you'll likely enjoy this, but it's a bit more grim and murdery compared to the light hearted tone of Ace Attorney, although Danganronpa still has those moments in it at times too and doesn't take itself extremely serious despite it's premise.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic game, however, somewhat tedious.
*by T***M on 5 October 2020*

Personally I got into Danganronpa through a friend and I definitely have no regrets whatsoever! I thoroughly enjoy puzzle games and this trilogy has so much to offer! The cases definitely provide a challenge and inspire you to think outside of the box. Even outside of the cases, there is the storyline which is constantly provoking the player to think about the plot and the circumstances of the characters in the game. My only complaints are that the translations from Jap-Eng aren’t always worded very accurately and have caused some very confusing moments for me during my gameplay. Furthermore, some of the gameplay can be a little tedious as the game mechanics are repetitive and sometimes difficult to work with. All in all this is a fantastic trilogy worth trying - I’ve had so much fun with it! Although there are cons, I strongly believe that the gripping storyline and the puzzling cases far outweigh any mistranslations and tedious gameplay. If you love a challenge, this game was made for you.
