Yes you need 600 film, the film itself has a battery but if you want to lower the price Only by 1 or 2 600 packs and then when they run out buy itype film save the old 600 packs, and in a dark room remove the film from the itype and insert it in the spent 600 pack it takes a little bit of skill and practice so use Photos already taken and practiced it a bit before you go blind in a room to try it. If done correctly you can use 1 600 film for 2 to 3 times Before the battery drains, each time being 8 pictures to 12 Depending
