## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the range of this sensor? Over what amount of distance can it detect a field?**
A: I'm using these for a simulator project using fixed magnets. The magnets on my simulator controls are about 6 mm from the chip and I get a good signal for my control purposes. When they first arrived I did a quick (though not terribly accurate) test to see how close I needed the magnets to get a good signal. Beyond about 15 mm wasn't workable, and inside about 10 mm produced a workable signal.

**Q: are they unipolar?**
A: I'm going to answer this question even though I haven't seen the term "unipolar" come up in discussions regarding building Hall effect hi-hat sensors for electronic drums which is the application I'm involved with. The side of the chip that's beveled is the north side. The flat side opposite is the south side. I discovered that on my own during my second build when I had to turn the magnets (scavenged from hard drives) upside down. At first I thought it might be my wiring but then I noticed I had glued the chip in facing the opposite direction. I'm hot gluing these inside a polycase project box and then wiring them up to a TRS female jack. Center is ground, left is +5 volt power to chip and the right pin is the output that increases as the magnet approaches the chip.

**Q: What are the pin outs? Is there a datasheet?**
A: With the beveled side facing you the left pin is +5 volt chip needs to operate. The center is the ground and the right pin is the variable output depending on the magnetic field it senses
