Essential.
This is a leverage device that is shaped to maximize the amount of pressure you can put on specific locations on your body. I have chronic back pain below my left shoulder blade. It is impossible for me to reach with a massage gun. Likewise, paying someone else to massage that area is expensive, and often insufficient in terms of amount of pressure, and frequency of going back to get the area massaged. This Theracane solves all of those problems. With a very small amount of force, I can leverage the device to put a lot of pressure on the tight knotted muscles on my back, better than any human with their bare hands can do. I can do this as often as I want, and I don't have to shell out money each time I do it. I would like to mention that there are some on here who complained that the device broke on them. One review mentioned that his cane broke in three spots, and the third piece shot out like a bullet, which he was glad did not hit his sleeping wife. I can safely say that this man did not use the product correctly. Once again I will say: not a lot of force is needed to effectively put a lot of pressure on a point on your body. Leverage will do all the work for you. The amount of force he must of used to snap the device and even have the third broken shard "shoot out like a bullet" is improper. You do not need to muscle the device, and in fact if you do, you may break it - it is plastic after all. High quality and durable plastic. But plastic nonetheless. The Theracane should never experience a lot of force put upon it by the user. The amount of pressure put on your muscle is a result of the leverage of the device - and of your technique using the device - multiplying the amount of force you put into the device. Ergo, it is my experience that a lot of pressure was put on my body without having to use very much force at all, and it is likewise my belief that the device breaking has to do with improper use of the Theracane, and not a lot to do with the durability of the device. Follow the instructions should you buy this thing, and adhere to them. If you do, you shouldn't have any issues with the device breaking. Do not put too much force on this Theracane. A little force goes a long way when a leverage multiplier is involved. The pain in my back was unbearable. I am so very glad I purchased the Theracane. I was actually getting depressed, because the pain lasted for years. Only now can I effectively reduce - and perhaps even one day soon eliminate - my back pain.

You may not believe this review…
I am almost 40 and I have had upper back and neck pain since a teen from being in front of a computer too much. I have a bit of a hunchback that I have been trying to reverse the last few years with exercise. Most of the time it is not enough to bother me, but it feels like that area is very tense compared to the rest of my back and even with exercise I don’t have full range of motion of my neck and shoulders. Sometimes it really hurts though after a long day or when I am sick then it is pure torture. I bought this item in 2015 and thought it was good but using it sitting down it was still kind of a lot of work and I have since bought all types of electric massagers or massage guns but all of them have just been ok. Cut to 2022, I am sick with the flu and it’s the middle of the night and my back is killing me and keeping me awake. I get the idea that hey I wonder if i can use the Thera Cane lying down? I put the curved end behind my back and kinda gently lay on it and baby l, where has this feeling been all my life?! I assume they don’t show that you can use it lying down because it can lead to injury if done incorrectly so be cautious if you chose to do so. Using it lying down in bed I barely have to do anything except wiggle the cane or wiggle my body. Very little effort. And it gives that super deep hurts so good feeling because my body weight is helping it get in there. But I also have a ton of control, I can brace my weight some or make very gentle slow moments to knead a point. You can also breathe in and exhale into the sensation. It unlocked that deep breathing I have only experienced a few times doing yoga as a yoga newbie. And it sounds ridiculous but I was stuffy from the flu and it started to clear my sinuses because I was breathing so deeply. After doing it for about 1 hour my back felt like silly putty and there were not really any areas that felt tense. When I got out of bed I really felt like I was standing straighter and keeping my shoulders back for good posture has never felt more easy to me. Literally after one good session using it lying down in bed like this made me feel amazing when I’m super achey and sick! I can’t imagine how good it will feel normally! This is now going to be my go to gift for anyone with back pain or older people. I’m so sad that it took me all these years to try it this way but happy I found it in the end! Good luck to you!

Thera Cane: Amazing Tool for Self-Therapy
Here I am! Rock you like a Thera Cane! (Had to) Let me begin by saying the Thera Cane is a breakthrough in physical therapy. Trigger point stimulation is very effective for those of us with muscle stiffness, which is probably 99.9% of us. With that said, watch out on Amazon because I received a fake one which I will later explain how I could tell and why it is unacceptable. UPDATE at bottom (please disregard this portion of my review). I first came across Thera Cane working as an intern in a private PT outpatient facility. I saw it hanging from the door and thought it was one of those anti-auto-theft things that go on the car steering wheel. One day I saw my supervisor using it on his back and had him tell me all about it. From then on, I used it whenever I got a chance (along with other really cool stuff like BOSU ball and Bodyblade, not to digress). It does take time to figure out. Although, you can rub it around and move it as a dynamic massage, it is best used when you find ONE spot and keep the pressure there. Find that spot baby! It is worth it. You should feel a slight pain, but you have to understand your relieving tension by stretching the tense muscle specifically WHERE it is tense. These "trigger" points are all around your body, but for me and I'm sure for many of us, the upper back is a treasure cove for these points. The Thera Cane eliminates the need for another person to do manual therapy. And the best part is, you know your body better than anyone else so feedback is automatic. Do what feels good. UPDATE ON THIS PORTION (DISREGARD) Now of course I had to invest two 20-dollar bills into my own Thera Cane so I ordered here on Amazon (like I do with everything). Thera Cane however, is a very simple instrument. Apparently people have figured out how to bootleg it. And they are selling through Amazon. Yup, I got a fake Thera Cane. Now, to the untrained eye (i.e. one who has HEARD of all the good things Thera Cane has to offer, but never used it), it looks EXACTLY as it does in the picture and has the same function. So why do I even complain about and return it? The answer lies in the material. This fake is flimsy and flexible in comparison to the genuine thing. Thera Cane uses a RIGID material for a reason, that is to allow the user to easily CONTROL the pressure applied. This is very important because it makes the difference between an effective and a not-as-effective application. With the fake, you not only need to press harder, but it is difficult to apply the constant pressure that you want to relieve the tension. Also pay attention to the color. It should NOT be a solid shade of . It should have a color texture of kind of like a very slight tie-dye type green. Nice try, but I demanded my refund and sent it back. So to conclude my long of Thera Cane, it is an amazing little tool if you use it correctly and patiently. Do not be fooled though. If you have no experience with Thera Cane, your best bet would be to order directly from their website, otherwise you risk being duped. Good luck and enjoy! UPDATE!!!!!!! So I talked to the Thera Cane team upon an email I sent about what I had just talked about. Apparently the flexible one I received was an upgraded version of the old rigid one. I mistook it for a fraud... yeah, yeah I'm a moron for that, I'm taking responsibility. People, don't worry, the folks at Thera Cane are good when it comes to preventing knock offs being sold around the U.S. So check for the Thera Cane patent marks and it should be fine. Now, they never said on their website that they update the material but according to them, they are constantly upgrading the material and structure of the Thera Cane which I think is good to know if you want to have the latest version or if your old one broke. Again, I still prefer having a rigid Thera Cane, but the good news is the latest Thera Cane is actually more rigid than the one I sent back and I just got it and it works just fine. Best part is that they made it more break-resistant.

Works Great! Beats the Casada massager for precision work.
Update: August 23, 2017 I've acquired more massaging tools including the Casada Massage Cushion Maxiwell III with Jade Stone and Heating The Casada is terrific for *massage*. It can unknot muscles cramped tight enough to cause a pinched nerve. Once I feel pain starting if I dedicate 6 hours to massage sessions with the Casada (split into 3 days), it can prevent a pinched nerve incident. Can the thera cane do this? Only if I use the cane everyday to prevent attacks. I haven't got the dedication to do this.If I try for 3 2-hour sessions I get blisters. So I save it for targeted efforts. Here, it beats all other devices because they cannot hit the spot. As far as I can tell, you can't really wear out the Thera Cane. As a matter of fact, a therapist gave me a second Thera Cane as part of the pain treatment class. Talk about overkill. End update. Right now, I've got five self massage tools, four of them recommended by therapists: a foam roller, various rubbery balls from sports that I don't play, a plastic roller encased in a handy grip, a vibrating heat pad for car/chairs (not recommended by anybody including me) and the theracane. The theracane is the most effective, period. It is easy to use. The foam roller is an OK. The roller is good for large areas like my back but awkward for many other areas. Unfortunately, it takes such a long time to roll out cramps in my back that I start to pick up cramps in my arms and legs from supporting myself. I compromise by loosening up with a bit of rolling and using the cane for the heavy duty work. The cane lets you really use your muscles to hit spots, even the ones you can reach with your hands, so it is much more effective plus it saves wear and tear on your hands. I received the theracane and started using it immediately with the help of the enclosed booklet. My stiff knee started to loosen with the first session and six days later I noticed I had stopped limping. I had ordered the Trigger Point Therapy Workbook by Clare and Amber Davies to go with the cane. It arrived 3 days later because of a long weekend. The book was very helpful. I had a vague idea of which points to start with because I could feel the knot in the big muscle in the calf but the workbook is very precise and now I'm working on some of the smaller hidden muscles. I also tried some of the other sections in the workbook. I have TMJ but it's not really a problem. My jaw gives the occasional click with no pain. I tried some of the trigger points and after one session, one side of my jaw is click free! The other side still clicks slightly. Sigh, there is no magic bullet. I guess I'll have to repeat that section. Overall, the theracane massager with the workbook is better than the run-of-the-mill masseuse. You'll need someone very well-trained to do a better job.

Stress reliever
This product is useful for self-massaging trigger points most anywhere on the body. Read the manual carefully to learn many different ways to properly use the TheraCane Massager. I have chronic fibromyalgia and arthritis 24/7 and nothing really makes me pain-free, ever. I have tried most everything. The TheraCane is helpful for loosening up the muscle knots in my neck, shoulder, back etc. I do appreciate having the TheraCane, as I have tried one out in a store and at someone's home before. When I received a gift certificate for Amazon.com I knew what I wanted to purchase. For me personally, this does not take away my pain, but nothing does anyway. Anything that relieves the pain or tension from stress is helpful to me. This is probably more helpful to others than to me in the level of relief you will get from this. What I really like about the TheraCane is that I am able to reach the places in my back etc, and it allows me to apply quite deep pressure I cannot get otherwise until I go to professional massage therapy (I go every 2-3 wks). I can use this when no one else is around to help me release/relieve the trigger points of stress or pain. Even partial relief is better than none. It helps reduce/take away my neck headaches as well. The TheraCane also appears to be built from very strong material and I expect to have it the rest of my life. It will even fit in a medium to large suitcase if I should ever choose to take it with me on a trip.

Miracle tool for the knots in your back
This is a great tool for the knots in your back. It is very well made and will last a lifetime. It takes a bit of time to figure out how to hold it correctly to get to the spots you want to work on… be gentle and roll the end of it on you sore knots it works wonders!

I Love this thing!
I have had a trigger point on the back of my shoulder - almost out of reach of my fingers - that has been bothering me for several years now. As soon as I saw a picture of the Thera Cane, I knew I would be able to get at the darn thing (the trigger point) and press on it. And that is exactly what I was able to do, as soon as I took the Thera Cane out of the package. I can press on it hard or soft, or massage it or rub it - whatever feels good that day. And it seems to be loosening up. Beyond that one spot, I have been exploring other parts of my back and finding what parts are a bit tender, and I just work on any area I feel needs work. I love to run the Thera Cane up and down the sides of my spine. And I can massage the back of my neck which feels really good. It is easy to use and to understand how to use. The instructions show how you can drape an arm over part of it to increase pressure by weight, an alternative method to having to pull down or push on the cane. You can reach just about any part of your back. It does not take much to figure out how to get to any part that needs some work. The Thera Cane is well made. As it is all in one piece of a hard molded plastic, there are no parts (the "handles" or the balls) that could come off with extended use. While getting a massage is a very good thing, there are those of us for whom it is not in the budget. Also, since you can use the Thera Cane on a daily or weekly basis, you can work on sore spots right away rather than letting them build up and become chronic. I keep my Thera Cane under my couch, so that I can pull it out when I am sitting there. I bring it into where my computer is if I am going to be there for awhile, so I can take time to massage my back. I just leave the cane hooked over my shoulder, ready to hand. I find that, since I take frequent breaks to Thera Cane my back, I am not stuck in the Hand-to-Mouse position that leads to carpal tunnel and rounded shoulders. This makes me more aware of how I am sitting as well. Also, I understand that it is not restricted for airplane travel, which means one could take it with them on a trip. Imagine how beneficial that would be for travel weary backs. Once again, I LOVE the Thera Cane. One of the simplest and greatest inventions in a long time.

Quello originale
Originale Thera-Cane.
