These are very good!
I have not used flatwound strings on my mandolin before and so far \I am impressed. They have a good bright tone and feel nice to play, so will likely order these again.

Splendid!
Who would have thought that bits of wire could change my life? They are the first set of round flatwounds that I have bought so I cannot compare them to others but I think these are quite splendid.

Not what I expected
A word of caution, only the G and D strungs are flat wound. The A string isn't wound at all , which I mistakenly expected. Also the loop on one A string snapped before I had even wound any tension on the string. I normally love D'addario strings and thought these may be good for a try. I won't be pursuing that line of thought. Back to my normal round wound from now on.

at first I thought them to be less Mandolin sounding than Dads Round Wound
These took time to settle in and at first I thought they were inferior to the D'Addario round wound mandolin strings. But now a few days later they have settled down nicely and I like them a lot.

Not bad but....
Thought I’d try these as I really like the flat wound chromes on my six string. They are a similar quality to the chromes but: a) there was a kink near the loop ends of all the strings in one of the two sets I bought, as if dented. b) the sticky coloured tags, used to identify and keep together each pair, have a very sticky glue that sticks to the strings and is difficult to remove. c) the delivery guy left them with a neighbor without putting a slip through my door and updated the status to say it had been handed over to the resident. The package would have easily fitted through my letter box...

Not phosphor bronze
I should have checked the code on the D'Addario website, but EFW74s are stainless steel flatwounds, not phosphor bronze as this listing states.

Love these strings, gave my Northfield SF5 a warmer sound. Will definitely buy again

The EFW74 strings are fine strings, but the label says "Flatwound Stainless Steel" not "Phosphor Bronze"

I am new to mandolin. After four weeks of playing, and wanting a slightly more mellow sound, I switched to these strings. I really like them. They are easier on the fingers, for one thing. Maybe that is more important to someone like me...small fingers...used to piano, clarinet and harp. Mandolin is QUITE a change for my fingers! Anyway, I got just what I expected....a somewhat easier "feel" and a somewhat more mellow sound. Suits me to a tee, as I play more towards the "classical" style rather than the more normal mandolin styles of music.

Item description said phosphor bronze flatwound, I was sent steel. Not really an issue though, strings sound great.
