It is Heidegger’s most important and profound work. The book closely examines the notion of Being by exploring the concept of “being”. Heidegger dubbed this as Dasein and he delved into this concept by examining various themes such as morality, temporality, historicity and anxiety. The nature of Being encountered , as Dasien, which encounters, things ready-to-hand (in its series of involvements) , and things present-at-hand (in its separation from the thing) is what I took as the most important claim of Heidegger. Later parts are somewhat drawn and easily appears to descend into psychological generalities, yet they still appear quite original in view of Heidegger's "originary" concept of Being. I must say this was one of the books that "turned" my thinking in its course of knowing and I am sure it will do for you too. A must read.
