I planned my trip in Mongolia entirely with the first edition of this guide. For my second visit I went for the updated version and it wasn't a disappointment ;-)

Great Information About Mongloia
There are not many current travel guides for Mongolia. I thought that the Lonely Planet Guide answered the really important questions regarding climate, electricity, money, Internet access, cuisine, tipping, photographing people, telephone codes, visas, vaccinations, transportation, etiquette, and even toilets. I like the organization of the book. It is organized by region and has suggested itineraries. Finally, I enjoyed the photos and the writer's commentary throughout the guide. That said, I think that it is important to check out the itineraries of tours on-line so that you have an idea of where to go and what to see while you are there. The Internet has additional information about Mongolia. One resource is not really enough for any trip.

Very detailed guide, but needs update
Very good guide from Mongolia with many details about history, places to visit, recommendations for tours (we found one for our trip to Kharkhorin in this book) as also basic maps for Ulaan Baatar and other cities. They need to do some updates regarding restaurants and hotels as the last edition is over 10 years ago. As usual, Lonely Planet guides do not disappoint and for this country there are no good alternatives (bought another one that was useless).
