The cover is transparent plastic and a small circuit board with attached electronic components can be seen. As can be seen in the vendor's photo it will directly plug in for many applications, for those that don't clear instructions are provided and a small wiring harness and a polymer mounting band. I bench tested this device and it worked very well.So why did I bench test it ? I did so to confirm that it was not defective. Why did I suspect it might be defective.
