I'm very happy with my 1621+
I've owned a Synology 1512+ since 2012. It was great, but it was time to get a new Synology. There was no question regarding what brand to get, which is a Synology. After my research, I found that the 1621+ with 32 Gig RAM and a 10GB Ethernet adaptor was the perfect choice. I loaded this up with the Seagate IronWolf 12GB X 6 NAS 7200 RPM 256MB cache drives = 60TB and 42TB after the SHR-2 Raid configuration. This thing is halling!!!! It's very fast, responsive and the new DSM 7.2 OS works great! When you all get one of these, please get a UPS as always to keep the machine safe! You will really like this product as I do.

Watch for compatibility.
Great unit. If it only worked… I was really excited to expand my setup, so when the DX525 arrived I immediately got to work. I loaded it up with drives, got everything neatly assembled, and felt very accomplished… right up until the moment I tried to connect it to my Synology DS1019+. Spoiler: you can’t. Not “it didn’t work”. I mean the interfaces are completely different. As in, physically impossible to plug in. At that moment, I learned a valuable lesson about checking compatibility before playing NAS Legos. My DS1019+ is less than 2 years old. 2 YEARS and it’s already incompatible with their new products?? Hey Synology…Think for a minute. What are you doing? What followed was over an hour of undoing all my hard work: removing drives, disassembling the unit, and carefully repackaging everything for return. Nothing says “fun afternoon” like un-building the thing you just built. To make matters worse, now that I need the compatible expansion unit, holiday pricing has kicked in and the cost has jumped nearly 20%. So instead of expanding my storage, I’m expanding my patience and waiting for prices to drop. Overall: Build quality is fine. Compatibility? Absolutely not with a DS1019+. My disappointment? Thorough and time-consuming. Check your model first—learn from my tragic holiday tale.

Make sure this is the expansion you need and not the 517
I’m sure it is fine but unfortunately I got the wrong one and can’t return it. I needed the dx517 because my NAS had a esata port on it. I tried just buying the c to esata but it did not work. So now I have a great expansion I can’t use. Once I got the 517 everything worked as it should. Ah well… means I can plan for my next upgrade huh.
