Even Gibsie Hides Secrets
Gibsie is such an overlooked character in these books. He’s so lighthearted and full of fun but underneath he’s being torn apart by a secret that will destroy your world. Yet his love for everyone never falters and he takes every blow he doesn’t deserve. It’s heart wrenching but it’s key to continuing the series. You MUST know his and Clair’s story to fully comprehend what happens later on. The entire series is amazing but to find writing like this is rare. If you’re on the fence about reading this series please check the trigger warnings for each book. If you’re able to handle the emotional toil associated it is honestly a masterpiece. A forever shelf book without even a question.

If you think you know Gerard Gibson and Claire Biggs, you would be very wrong.
I need to preface this review with a bit of advice. Please go into Taming 7 with the courage and emotional intelligence needed to understand and discover the true and real Gerard Gibson. We did not know him. The happy self deprecating facade he uses to protect himself from the world is just that - a mask to keep him safe. I have been appalled at the number of reviews I've seen totally missing the point of Gerard and Claire's story arc. Both characters have experienced loss, trauma and abuse - in no way would a fluffy funny romance with little emotional substance do them any justice. From the prologue, Chloe Walsh let's us know that there is something fundamentally broken within Gibsie and he has been hiding behind his happy go lucky persona for a very long time. Claire Biggs is the only person in his world who he can be himself with, and even she is kept protected from him demons. The relationship between Claire and Gerard has been established in the previous 4 books - they a best friends and soul mates. This story isn't about an emerging relationship and its angsty growing pains, it is about them leaning to trust each other with their deepest truths and believing they will be loved unconditionally despite of them. I adored this book for being brave enough to show the differnt reactions to grief and trauma. Gibsie chose deflection and humour. Lizzie chose rage and distance. Neither is wrong and neither is healthy and that is the point. Lizzie and Gerard are two opposing sides of the same coin and Chloe Walsh has created a mountain of baggage for our characters to overcome before they get their happily ever after. I was immensely satisfied by the ending of Taming 7. Some readers prefer a formulaic, everything tied in a neat little bow ending to a couples story arc. This would have cheapened Gerard's experiences and been a slap to face of his healing journey. Claire has had her entire truth system challenged and remade. Her life long friendship with Lizzie has reached breaking point. The boy she loves is in pain and needs to find out who he is without his mask to keep him safe. And Claire respects and understands him enough to choose him. Lizzie needs to accept and love herself before anyone else can. Claire and Gerard will have their happily ever after - of that I am positive. I am immensely pleased that at the end of Taming 7, we see Gerard Gibson free of his secret and mask and we can get to know the real him.
