Ascend Tools 5 inch Two in One Combination Electrical Wire Stripper and Cutter, 26-14 AWG

EDIT: Received a new pair, and it works like a charm. I just got a bad one the first time around. Previous Review: May have just been the pair I received, but the cutting blades weren’t closing together. There’s a gap between the blades that doesn’t close unless I give this thing a death grip. Even then it struggled to cut 20 AWG stranded copper wire. Really hoping I just received a faulty pair. The stripping portion of the tool works great. No problems there, but half of the tool just doesn’t work.

I had one of these and tabs broke and didn't work quite right anymore. So I got another one, it is good for striping wire.

It’s a great quick snip and clip tool. Certainly worth having in your tool bag or in the shop. The stripper will nip an extra strand of wire or two but it leaves more than it takes, if you get my drift.

I build and repair tube amplifiers and I purchased this primarily as a wire stripper. It works very well. The plastic finally wore out, and the stripper stopped working. Super glue allowed me to get another day out of it. I ordered another because I liked it so well.

I don't know what took me so long to finally try these out. I had them on my radar for YEARS but was always apprehensive about buying a pair simply because of the mixed reviews they seemed to have as well as the fact that I already owned so many nippers and strippers already. But the time came where I was trying to simplify my kit and I'm always a sucker for tools that perform multiple functions so I finally bit the bullet and ordered them. I got a 5.00 discount and they were delivered literally 12 hours later, so that was just a bonus on Amazon's part. Anyway, I immediately took them to task on the most common wires I use, 20ga solid core, 22ga stranded and solid, and a very miniscule 24ga stranded core. They performed flawlessly in cutting and especially stripping. I didn't even have a technique developed yet and they still did exactly what I wanted them too. Amazing. The only slight disadvantage I can see is that they take a bit more effort cutting a wire than typical nippers, just because you're working against the pair of springs but they cut like butter. In fact, you feel no resistance at all from the wire when cutting. I haven't used them for much larger wire, but I imagine I will go for the bigger pair when and if I ever need to. If you're like me and work on analog equipment like Amps, Guitars, Pedals, Radios, etc. You are most likely using around the same gauge of wire as I do and let me tell you... In this realm I can't imagine using anything else for stripping wire now as these make for incredibly quick work. Hopefully they last a while because I intend on using these daily.

Best wire cutting and stripping tool ever

I have a set of these I purchased locally around 15 years ago and they are my favorite wire strippers! I wanted another pair, but have never found them local again. When I found these on Amazon I ordered immediately. I however discovered an issue with these, they cut almost all the way though there! I can strip the same wire with my older pair it works perfectly every time. This got me looking at what the issue could be since I had one set that works and one that didn't. I discovered that on the working set, when I close them the clamp touches just before the teeth that do the stripping touch. On these new ones the teeth touch first and the clamp never does! It's no wonder why the wire gets cut! The clamp stays open and the teeth cut right though the wires. :( Edit: I returned the first ones and got a replacement that was made even worse than the first! To the vendor; please look though your stock and get rid of all the ones that are made incorrectly... I have attached a photo of what it should look like when closed and made correctly.

I thought these looked like a brilliant idea, on paper. When I received them I discovered that the mechanism that strips the wire makes the snipper/cutter pretty unusable. There is a "stoppy" motion that is part of the process when you go to cut anything. So it results in a jerky cut that you can't do anything about. If you're trimming leads after soldering or anything like that, you'll definitely want more finesse than these give you. So that leaves the wire stripping part... I haven't actually used that part, but I would imagine that dedicated wire strippers would be better for the job. This is just a case where two dedicated tools would be better than this combo tool. I wish I would have known before buying.

These tools are exactly as described and work great very high quality. My package arrived on the expected date but for some reason the tools were not in the package ,it appeared the package was opened somewhere in the shipping process and the tools were removed.As I am a professional mechanic I was waiting these tools for an upcoming job and didn't need a refund I contacted the seller and even though the loss of these tools was clearly not any fault of theirs they agreed to send me out another set at no charge and shipped them through a different company., So yes I did recieved my tools and now use them every day again very high quality .highly recommend this tool and this seller .nice to see a company go the extra mile

Wire stripping part works well. Flush cutter part is a bit stiff. Hoping it will wear in

Was expecting a stripper for finer wire but was for too thick of wire so could not use for the purpose I needed. kept and if it comes to needing for heavier wire will use.
