**Q: Is the fork portion plastic or metal**
A: It is heavy duty plastic however, these things do last a long time . We use them working with a crew of disabled adults who are really hard on tools and we get between 2 to 3 years each out of them. I have also used them when I had horses as an apple picker and they never break.
