Review: EASY TO SET UP! INTERGRATES WITH MANY SYSTEMS - THE BEST! I am not a person who likes technology. I'm 50, I still can't use my tv remote- yes, I'm that person. Thanks to ST I installed a whole home surveillance and automation system in minutes! I connected ST multi-purpose sensors, 5 Wyze cameras, a Eufy outdoor cam, motion sensors, smart lights, multiple echo dots, smart locks, a smart thermostat and other google home tech. ST makes it so EASY to integrate EVERYTHING! It's impossible to fail. I was worried all the smart tech would weaken my Wifi but it's been over a month and everything is perfect. I control my whole home from my phone (I also rigged a couple of Kindle Fire pads framed on the wall as smart pad controls on both levels ). There are no monthly fees and I spent 1/10th of what it would have cost to hire someone. I can't tell you the peace of mind I have. When I'm at work and desertcart leaves a package, I know immediately and can talk to the delivery person through the camera speakers. I heard a weird noise the other night and I could immediately check my night vision cameras. If someone opens a door I know immediately. The multi purpose sensors monitor noise, fire, water and vibration if someone breaks a window. I even talk to my dog through the speakers when I'm at work. EASY to use, GREAT features, GREAT integration, VERY EASY to add new components.
Review: Easy to install, integrate and works perfectly! - I purchased this device to sense when my garage door is open or closed. On several occasions we discovered that our garage door was open all night. It is rare but just once puts us at risk for someone to enter the house or garage at their leisure. A very scary proposition. I thought I closed the door but I did not wait to see it come to a halt and the interference sensor reopened the door when it closed on a towel I was using to dry my car. I purchased the multipurpose sensor that day. Installation is quite simple; the sensor sticks to the door with double sided tape. Within the SmartThings app you use setup to set the device as a garage door sensor and then create an automation to turn on a specific light (a LifX bulb in my case) when the door has just opened or closed. I can also ask Alexa if the door is closed and it will respond with, "The Garage Door is open", or "The Garage Door is closed" based on the doors current state. Using IFTTT I added a feature to flash the LifX bulb at 9:00 PM to show us if the door is open or closed. Red for open, green for closed in my case. A wonderful sensor that is easy to integrate and does exactly what it is supposed to do. Buy several! It has additional functionality, but this is how I used mine.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Will this multi purpose sensor work with my 2nd generation smart thing hub?**
A: Yes.

**Q: I thought it was supposed to send notification if window etc opened?? notification is turned on but i don't get any**
A: This does send notifications. If you are using the SmartThings hub it will send text notifications and/or push notifications and/or speaker notifications (if you also have a speaker hooked up that is compatible).

**Q: Can a sensor connected to the hub be used to activate a light connected to the same wifi network but not the hub?**
A: Ralf is correct. I have the sensor in my detached garage. It's set to "garage" mode. My Smartthings hub is connected to router via ethernet. I have a small lamp with a red light bulp plugged into a TP-Link smart outlet in my common room. Everything is on same WiFi. I created a SmartThings automation that turns on the lamp & sends me a text when the garage door opens. I have another automation that turns the lamp off when the garage door is closed.

**Q: Does it work with Alarm.com’s security system?**
A: Check the smartthings app compatibility list for devices it works with. If zwave or zigbee it most likely does work.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Disappointed

Automations can check contact sensor, temperature, vibration sensor, and battery level. They can't check tilt except by overriding the contact sensor (using the "Use on garage door" setting in the Smart Things app) which reports only open or closed. The magnet is very strong, so the gap between the magnet and sensor can be an inch. The vibration detector works, but it's not very sensitive and there is no adjustment. It may be just right for most applications. I have not yet made practical use of this feature. The tilt sensor reports the angle from vertical for three axis, but not with any precision and not in degrees. Horizontal is 0 and vertical is roughly 1000, or -1000 if upside down, but may report over 2000 when shaken. Furthermore, the position is not polled on regular intervals. It is only reported for a few seconds after the sensor detects vibration. All of that is irrelevant because I can find no way for an automation to read the tilt sensors' positions. (If you know how, please comment.) The only use for the tilt sensors is via the "Use on garage door" setting in the Smart Things app. When the "Use on garage door" setting is turned on, the sensor reports OPEN only after the sensor reaches a fully horizontal position, and reports CLOSED only after the sensor returns to the fully vertical position. Thus the same position of the sensor may be reported two different ways depending on it's prior position. Furthermore, because the sensor only reports a change in it's position when vibration is detected, if the sensor is moved slowly and smoothly it will not report a change, even if turned 90 or 180 degrees. Because the sensor does most of what people want reasonably well, I have only deducted one star. However, I am very disappointed that there is no way to detect any position other than vertical or horizontal, and that even those are not reported if the change doesn't happen rapidlly.
