It takes a while (I’ve left pieces in it overnight) but it’s well worth it. I bought a small container initially but bought a larger size because it’s so good. It obviously can’t fix severely corroded metal, that’s not what it’s for.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: It seems that almost every review involves "soaking" items. How does this work on surface rust that cannot be soaked?**
A: For areas that's cannot be submerged I have taken paper towels soaked in Evaporust and wrapped the part. Do a few layers and make sure there are no air pockets or that area will not be treated. Follow the paper towels with a layer of plastic wrap to keep the product from evaporating and again watch out for air bubbles. Inspect, re-soak and re-wrap every few hours.
For heavy rust I hit the surface with a wire wheel first.
The Evaporust Gel might be more suited to this method.

**Q: Will this be safe to clean steal scuba tank in side and help prevent rust**
A: I'm a dive master and certified tank inspector.  If you have rust in your tank you should have it professionally inspected.  You "could" use this but if there is pitting or other dammage it would cripple the tank and potentially make it unsafe to fill.  Not sure about any residue this might leave that could contaminate the air, so I would say probably better stick to tumbling to remove light rust.  Your dive shop can do this or should know of a service center that can.

**Q: My metal is covered with sticky goo after I left evapo-rust on it. I want to avoid water rinse due to flash rust. how do you rinse this off?**
A: With the evapo rust, you need to make sure there are no oils, grease, etc prior to being on the metal when you soak the evapo rust. Once you soak the evapo rust and the rust has been removed, the product has done its job. You do want to wash it off afterwards and dry it. To keep it from re rusting is another problem in of itself. We have a product called rust block that comes in either a trigger spray or aerosol can. Spray a layer of it on there and it will keep the object from re- rusting for up to a year

**Q: If I soak a tool, will it ruin a wooden handle  (like a chisel)?**
A: I have soaked many old tools with wooden handles with little change to the wood.  Given that “wood doesn’t like water”, I try to keep the soak time as short as possible.  I rinse and rub with fine steel wool.  I dry with a hair dryer to prevent rusting.  Final step is light oiling.  I hope this process works for you.  Also, I keep the “used” EvapoRust and reuse many times.

This stuff is brilliant for rusty steel, better than white vinegar. I had bolts and bicycle parts that were basically clean, but pretty well rusted. No caked on grease or dirt, a good layer of rust but not caked up thick. I put them in a plastic container of this stuff. It dissolves the rust into the solution, so no wire brushing needed unless the part is covered in gunk. It takes a while. I did the first screw in an ultrasonic cleaner and they were done in an hour. I put the more complicated parts with deep sockets into a container of this and let it soak for a couple of days, they came out beautiful! Depending on the steel it will either come up clean or have a gray/black conversion coating. Great for screws/tools, the conversion coating helps hold oil to prevent future rusting. It won't eat the base metal. Rusty pliers could sit in this for a month, the rust will dissolve but the pliers won't have any pitting except for what the rust did. I wouldn't use it on my antique rifle, because the color might turn, but it's great for general purpose stuff like tools and hardware.
