How do I take care of my Estwing axe?

e.prender1.never chop into the ground or strike rocks with your axe,it could be your life line!!! 2.always sharpen it after use. 3.use a light oil to rub on it. 4. never leave it outdoors,put it in your tent or under a tarp.5.don't ever grind on it with a grinder. 6. don't put handle close to your fire. 7. when chopping, put your limb on a larger piece of wood to chop against,do not chop your piece of wood on the ground.8. keep your feet away from chopping area:wide straddle stance.9. put cover on axe when not in use. hope this helps.

One review said the handle was hollow. If true, should i just buy a wooden handle axe?

They are hollow but, my husband had his last one for over twenty years. Used hard as a saddle axe. It just finally gave up this last winter. So if they make them like they used to these are darn good to own

What steel is this made of?

All Estwing striking tools are made from 1055 steel. I called Estwing and asked. Very helpful peeps!

is it better quality than the standard estwing camp axe

Tho I don't own the standard one, I think it's the same indestructible ax, but in a mat black finish. The sheath is black cordura, I think the standard one may be in leather. Overall I like mine and opted for the black finish, which has been reasonably durable. Hope this helps.

Mich hatte anfangs der schmälere Kopf abgeschreckt, aber es ist ja auch keine richtige Spalt axt. Schwarze Farbe und Aufkleber habe ich direkt mit Verdünnung entfernt da die sowieso mit der Zeit abgehen. Schade das es keine blanke mit schwarzen griff direkt zu kaufen gibt... Ansonsten bin ich von Qualität, spalten und Handling sehr begeistert !

Excelente hacha

El hacha vino con un polvo rojo en el mango (Parece ser polvo de ladrillo) pero a pesar de eso, el hacha tiene muy buen peso y se ve de muy buena calidad. Estwing nunca decepciona con productos de excelente calidad y muy bajo precio.

Same great quality with a nicer paint job

Back in the early 80's, while in my mid 30's, I carried a blue version of this with me as I traveled and camped from Canada to Mexico. It served me well. Although it is a bit heavy for traveling I wanted an unbreakable axe with a decent length for wood, wild animals etc. When I saw this version I just couldn't resist. It has a good non-slip grip. If I had to chop wood all day long I might switch to a wooden-handled axe. But for traveling I want to make sure I don't have to stop and fix a broken handle in case of an accident.
