They had been allowed to spread far too much both upwards and across the way by an elderly couple. These have been able to cut through thinner lower branches with ease as well as trimming higher, thicker branches when felled. You must have a decent amount of working space to allow the handles to open wide enough for the jaws to grip thicker branches. However the longer handles, coupled with the extremely sharp blade make it surprisingly easy to slice through these thicker ones.
