This Safeware gearbox is exactly the same as the one it replaced in everyway. So glad I found it on Amazon and it probably saved me £300 (after looking at the video on how to replace). Dismantling the old one and it is very complicated inside and you wonder how they manage to make a part as obviously well engineered for so little cost. Perfect fit and that includes having to use the original fixing screws. Very satisfied with this!

The lock was a direct replacement for a mechanism that was broken by a locksmith to gain entry into the house. The lock was well packaged, the latch required rotating for the door, however this was easily carried out using a Philips screwdriver. The lock was fitted into the multilock system by 4 screws (not supplied), I used the original screws but for some reason they didn't tap into the threads of the new lock. With the use of an pact driver this issue was easily solved, powering the screws into the lock mechanism was successful. Fitted the unit into the door within 20mins and all worked perfectly, great price and good quality products, would have got 5 stars if it was supplied with screws for the multilock system.

My old uPVC gearbox gave up the ghost and would only lock/unlock with real difficulty. Finally, it wouldn't lock at all, which was a real security issue. This is a direct replacement for my old gearbox, cost less than half of the price quoted by lock retailers for the part only and took twenty minutes to fit. You MUST take the old one out and measure it so you are sure you get the right item as they come in lots of size variations. Also, search YouTube to see how to fit the gearbox - you don't need to take all of the door edge-strip off. Be sure that the two lugs are located properly before you put all the screws back [you'll need a T20 bit and a Phillips]. Do that and you are sorted, and will have a perfectly-locking door, and will have saved c£200 over calling out a locksmith.

This is a good replacement - there is a die cast part inside it that had snapped on my old lock which meant the key wouldnt lock the door. I took apart the door strip with the mechanism and took it all apart. Found this lock and it is an identical replacment and was very easy to replace - took 30 mins. Even with no experience id recommend anyone give it a go.

Did the job as expected

Gearbox failed on my garage door late Saturday night. One of the die cast parts inside had broken off. Thought I’d have no chance of getting a replacement since it’s quite an old door and the multi lock was an obscure brand. Searched for replacements in screwfix etc and imagined the total nightmare and faff to replace the whole thing with a new assembly - so on the total off chance checked Amazon! And there it was!!!! Delivered to my door 12 hours later!! Perfect fit!! Replaced in less than 5 mins! Bingo bango! God bless you Geoffrey bezos!
