Great little device with a cute case!
Loving this so far! I've got the Kindle Kids with the intention of using it myself as I heard it was smaller and I absolutely loved the unicorn case! So far I can only see advantages to it. It's easy to use, the books I have as an adult are also available in my Kindle Kids library. I'm very happy with my purchase so far, I kept all Kids features as I don't see them as a disadvantage since I can access my entire Kindle library anyway! The touch screen is fast and responsive, the download speed is decent, it's small and weighs very little, has a premium feel, which makes me come back to Kindle after having used other e-readers in the past. The best part is that is that you get the best value for money with the Kindle kids as you could at any point lend it or even gifting it to a kid(just get the parental controls on!). The instructions are crystal clear and the whole set up took less than 5 minutes! The clarity of the writing is fantastic from my point of view. The only thing I'd change: I'd add a warmer light for bedtime reading, but that's available on the Kindle Paper white, so maybe it's a bit much to ask on a budge device.

Game Changer for a Dyslexic Child – Absolutely Worth It
We bought the newest generation Kindle Kids for our son, who is dyslexic and had really struggled with reading. Books just weren’t something he was excited about, and it was becoming a bit of a battle to encourage him. When we framed it as a “tablet for reading” instead of just another book, everything changed. He absolutely loves it. The glare-free screen is easy on the eyes, the page turns are quick, and the size is perfect for small hands. The cover is sturdy, and knowing that Amazon will replace it if it breaks gives real peace of mind. But the biggest win? His reading. He’s now read over 20 books on it, and the improvement in his confidence and ability has been incredible. His reading has come on leaps and bounds. He’s more willing to try, less frustrated, and actually proud of finishing books. For any parent with a reluctant or dyslexic reader, this has been a total game changer in our house. Highly recommend.

Kids kindle
Great battery life. In regards to speed it can lag like all kindle devices. Perfect readability though. I love how it blocks all adult content and allows my son to read age appropriate books. Functions are exactly like kindle BW

my best buy of the year
The Amazon Kindle for Kids is hands down my best buy of the year! My children absolutely love it. They can take it anywhere—car journeys, holidays, even just out in the garden—and read comfortably without carrying heavy books around. The screen is clear and easy on the eyes, and I don’t have to worry about distractions since it’s made just for reading. The battery lasts for days, which is a huge bonus, and the free access to a huge library of books keeps them happily entertained and learning. I ended up buying a second one because they were both so into it—no more fighting over who gets to read next! It’s such a great way to encourage a love of reading. Highly recommended for any parent!

Good device, would reccomend for children and adults who prefer easy to read books
I was quite pleasantly surprised by this 'basic' kindle version. I love books, but have some physical and leaning difficulties which make reading and holding books/turning pages hard. The kindle has been great for making reading more accessible for me. I can turn the page by gently touching the screen, there is adjustments for text size and font, which includes dyslexic friendly font. And, if you have bluetooth headphones, you can have the kindle read your books to you. It is small and lightweight. The Kids+ subscription that comes with it also include books suitable for older children, and for adults who may prefer books that are easier to read, as well as options for young kids. Though I do find Kids+ a bit difficult to use and confusing to navigate. Instructions would be nice. Also, the battery life is good compared to phones or tablets, but I don't see it lasting 6 weeks. I was surprised that you can read it in the dark, so I don't see the need for the paper wight version. I think this kindle does everything needed, maybe only consider other options if waterproofing is important to you.

Good
Kids really love this. Actually noted them reading for once (without being asked…I mean nagged!) the battery life is great and easy to use. It’s small enough for bags and bedside cabinets. Looks really nice with the colourful covers. Easy to read and can adjust brightness for dark/night time use. Only negative is it doesn’t pick up on the kids app easily and you have to re-start it. Little annoying-shows they’ve not read for days when you can clearly see they are. Minor gripe overall.

Rubbish quality, the old ones were much better
Wow I don’t really know where to start… but do not buy a new Kindle. My husband bought me a Kindle 4 over 15 years ago. This product is still incredible today: it has incredible battery life even after all these years (it would last weeks originally but even now if I read solidly every evening for a week I would need to charge it only once), it has user-friendly buttons on the side shaped perfectly so that a light touch turns the page, the buttons at the bottom are great as you can navigate easily through chapters, incredible glare free screen display… I could go on but obviously I am not rating my old Kindle! I need to mention it though, as with Amazon‘s forced obsoletion of my old Kindle (Amazon deliberately stop old Kindles from working in order to sell new kindles and therefore make more money - so I can no longer use Kindle unlimited or download new Books so it is basically useless) and after much research I (against principal) bought a new one. This new Kindle has destroyed the pleasure in reading that I once had as it now makes my reading experience loaded with frustration and anger. Firstly the touchscreen has got to be the absolute worst idea for an e-reader – what stupid individual coined this?! You cannot touch the screen even slightly without skipping at least one page and you don’t know which direction or how far it has skipped so you then spend ages trying to find exactly where you were! It’s also really uncomfortable to only have a very thin area to hold the Kindle and my thumb knuckle really aches over time. As if this weren’t bad enough, if you want to skip between chapters it’s not simply the touch of a button any more but you now have to zoom out and then scroll ages to the chapter you want so obviously I never do that any more which is frustrating as sometimes you just want to skip back to parts of the story as new details become apparent. Next there is the build quality – the new Kindle is like the cheap Christmas cracker toy equivalent – so disappointing. It is cheap and plasticky and when you press the screen it flexes. It even comes in a cheap paper thin card box. My original Kindle 4 was slightly lighter than the new one but somehow managed to be so much sturdier with the most comfortable soft touch back to it that literally never wore away or got sticky (I wonder if the shell was made from Uber thin aluminium or something as solid?). The new Kindle is really slippery in your hands with the cheapest plastic cover. You just know if you drop it it’s going to be game over. I stupidly bought one for my daughter around the same time and we have already had to send this back as it broke within the first few weeks of using it (the touchscreen stopped working/just kept glitching and without buttons you couldn’t do anything). Next the screen – it is so much more shiny than my last Kindle so I am frequently tilting it to try and avoid glare! Lastly the interface/user experience is atrocious (much like Amazon kids tablets) lots of scrolling and searching through stuff you don’t actually want whilst not immediately displaying what you actually have! It feels like wading through syrup to get anywhere. The screen is poor, the build quality is bad, the page turning is atrocious, the software/user interface is poor, the battery life is terrible…literally everything you might possibly want in an e-reader and this one is painfully substandard! The one feature I really wanted in a new Kindle that would have actually been an upgrade (if it actually existed obviously!) would be pronunciation of any words you look up but apparently this would be too much of a good thing! I just can’t tell you how much I miss the simplicity and practicality of my old Kindle - this new one just makes me angry and sad. Seeing as Kindle books and Kindle Unlimited are so expensive I may genuinely go back to physical books now the new kindle experience is so poor. Sadly I can’t give this less than one star but if I had to give it a positive I would say that the setup was relatively easy (much like it was with my original Kindle!). There are a lot of other good readers out there apparently so I would advise anyone reading this to go and explore those options!

Beautiful case and easy use
Bought this for my daughter for Christmas. She loves the included case, whose design is beautiful. The kindle itself downloads books easily when in range of the wifi and the size is perfect for putting in her handbag (she's been taking it everywhere!). She's almost 10 and has picked it up easily enough and her younger sister (7) can use it too. We haven't charged the battery yet and she started using it straight out of the box, so battery life seems good. It's lightweight so doesn't weigh down your hands, similar to weight of a smartphone. It comes with Amazon kids included for a period of time, which has meant she can download lots of books without me having to pay for any so far (she reads avidly). All in all a good little e-reader.
