I was one of the first tool salesmen to sell the first Leatherman back in the '80s, but was never one to have an EDC myself - until I found myself always looking for a tool in recent years. This hits the sweet spot; not too big, not too small. Not too expensive, not too cheap. The main blade is one of the best types of steel, VG-10. The scissors aren't just a cheap add-on but a big reason to choose this. It's got a proper jeweler's screwdriver, reversible Phillips and slotted at that. Both the saw and the 'rip' blades are seriously capable, the hex driver and extra bits better than many dedicated drivers, and the file - not to mention the usual can/bottle opener, wire stripper, large flat blade, the pliers head with replaceable wire cutters and visible measurements on the rounded handle are extremely well machined. The expensive ones have 4 the price It has many tools and is strong ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ It's Wave-ish. *by K***N on November 10, 2025* I'll get right to it. This is a really nice hybrid clone of the Wave and Free P4/Arc, that could be great if they made some minor changes. The machining and finish is really nice, much better than some other knock offs. So far this is the only one I'd actually consider almost good enough to use everyday at work - for light duty. What they really SHOULD do to improve this: - its too heavy, needs to drop some weight. It feels almost as heavy as my Surge and the weight is all in the frame. It's unnecessary and uncomfortable to wear. The weight "feels" like it's in all the wrong places compared to a real Leatherman. - the knife blades are too thin for their length. Just make them a little thicker. This is not where you should be shaving weight. - the pocket clip needs to either be moved to the other half of the frame - on the same side it's currently on - or redesigned completely. It would be much better to change it to a deep carry pocket clip with a "U" bend on the top (like a real Leatherman. I mean, you went this far copying it, why stop at the pocket clip) . The way it is now, it interferes with trying to to deploy the serrated blade in a serious way. Make it a deep carry clip and get the end away from finger hole on the knife. - loose the smooth beveled edges around the holes that deploy the knives. Making the edges LESS machined and keeping a hard edge (not sharp) will give your fingers more grip to deploy the knives - or just switch to thumb studs. Those holes are way too smooth and don't let the meat on your fingers grip the edges enough to easily deploy the knives. The pocket clip interference on the serrated blade makes this issue even worse. - loose one or two of the inboard tools, and fatten up the ones that remain. Make the most usable tools thicker. They are all thin and don't inspire any confidence that they won't immediately break on the first hard job. - the lock on the saw blade sticks open sometimes and slides a little too far out when engaged. If it "snaps" open, it jams, and its really hard to get closed. - there are NO SAFETY LOCKS to keep both knives from deploying when the pliers are open. Not the end of the world - but they would be nice. These are on every Leatherman tool I have, as a safety device. Someone, somewhere - is GOING to manage to cut the tip of their own finger off. All that said - I paid like $45 for this. The quality IS impressive - for the price - when you see the difference between these and the $30 competition. There are still some small changes that could greatly improve these. I have almost every well know model of Leatherman, including the Wave Plus, the Free P4 (basically the Arc) and the new Alpha among others. This clone -HONESTLY - is still not as nice, nor would I trust it as much. The knives are really thin. There's not a whole lot of metal there. Too thin for their length - and the size/weight of the frame makes you feel like you can subject this tool to hard use. It's a false sense of security. The scissors are (cough) 'copied' off the Wingman, - but the thump rest has sharp edges and is not bent over enough. They are downright painful to use. There doesn't seem to be any real detent to keep the knife blades "locked down" when stored and this allows the knives to lift up from their stored positions. The serrated blade lifts up enough that the gut hook can be completely exposed and catch on things. If I had to come up with an analogy to express what this tool is - here's what I decided on : Imagine a Chinese company cloned a Dodge Ram. It looks almost just as good, and drives down the road comfortably commuting to work. You watch the demos and see the social media people pushing it as a great alternative (cause they get paid to make reviews that are actually commercials). Everything seems fine, until you actually start doing "truck stuff" with the Dodge Ram Clone. Then the 4 cylinder Honda Accord engine and transmission used to power it, starts to show short comings. It was perfectly fine to drive back and forth to work - but wasn't actually meant to tow trailers or go off road like a real Dodge Ram. That's exactly what THIS tooI is. It looks good and will work fine under light, maybe even light moderate use for its size and class. The frame being so heavy, leads me to think it was done on purpose - to add weight and give the impression of "heavy duty". The weight conceals the fact ALL the tools are really thin. I have decades of use on some Leatherman's, and I won't be grabbing this instead of my Wave Plus anytime soon. I'd still suggest going with a Leatherman Wingman or at least TREATING this like a Wingman - which is a smaller, lighter duty, entry level "full size" multi tool. At least on the Wingman, the drivers on that are thick and hefty. Going back to my earlier point - the Leatherman Wingman COULD accommodate a longer main blade, but the knife is shorter BECAUSE the blade is so thin and slicey. They didn't make it longer just to help sell it, knowing it would be more prone to failure that way. The real deals ARE worth the money. Even a better buy if you find a used model in good shape. BUT - if you insist, or just WANT one these - its pretty decent for the money and seems perfectly capable of being used to a lower limit of a real Leatherman. I would not push these beyond simple, easy tasks. Break a blade on these and now you have a useless tool. Break a blade or the frame on a Leatherman and they will replace it for free under a 25 or 40 year warranty. If you wanna buy once and be done, - get a Leatherman. Wanna KNOW they can really be used as a - tool beyond cutting tape and opening boxes - get a Leatherman. This is not a tool that belongs with a eletrican or tradesman on a job. It belongs in a glovebox, a kitchen drawer, a tackle box, ect. It's really just the truth,despite some people not wanting to admit it. In a few months the extra money you spent on a real Leatherman won't even be a thought and you'll appreciate the quality every time it's used. Theres a REASON why everyone is coping the Wave Plus. It's the best platform made. Side by side - You will IMMEDIATELY notice the difference the extra money bought you. That's not a biased opinion, it's just a fact. This is not a Wave or Leatherman REPLACEMENT. Its a Wave or Leatherman ALTERNATIVE - for someone who wants "something instead of nothing" because a real Leatherman is just outside their budget OR wouldnt buy one to begin with. It's something instead of nothing for the kitchen drawer. BUT - these seem pretty good for $45. DEFINITELY better than other knock offs. Don't even bother with the real cheap ones. LASTLY - the review appearing under mine (at least on my screen) is ABSOLUTELY a fake review. To make the statement that "they invested a years worth of research and this knock off is BETTER than All the name brands - Leatherman, Gerber, SOG" - is an outright lie.
