Jenn from Twogether Studios here ( creators of the game with The Decemberists & Carson Ellis) The game board is 23 1/2 inches square. **Q: Is this too much for a smart 8 year old?** A: Hello- Illimat game designer from Twogether Studios here! We've played with kids as young as 7 or 8 for sure. If the 8 year old can scan a board to find combinations of cards that match a card in their hand they should be good. All of the adding is up to a maximum count of 14. There are other elements of the game that will limit choices of what they can play where they need to use deduction ( like the season of a field the card is in) or what luminaries are in play. My recommendation is to play a few rounds without the luminary cards and then add those in as they get the basic rules of play ( sowing, harvesting, and stockpiling).
