Camping Cookware Mess Kit, 1.1L, black

I like the kidney shaped mess kit but always wanted a smaller one. When I found this I snapped it up. I had concerns because some of the other reviews, so on arrival I immediately tried it out. Solid fuel tabs, alcohol, propane, butane, wood, it took them all in stride. The aluminum is thinner than some of my other mess kits, but it is thick enough. This is a solid unit. It fits nicely in my backpack and is priced right. Just enough space inside to pack my victuals for the weekend. Happy with my purchase.

I just received this yesterday and have not gotten to use it out in the field yet. I have played with it at home. You need to keep things moving in the pan. Due to its shape the ends are not over the heat when using a backpacking type of stove. I used a sprit burner to cook 2 strips of bacon then 2 eggs in the frying pan for breakfast. No issues. I cooked a meat sauce in the frying pan and pasta in the main pot using a butane stove. It worked like every other aluminum pan. Kept a low heat and nothing burned. The pans heat and cool off quickly. Good for cleanup which was easy. Major advantage over the bottle\pot sets you have a frying pan. It's like the Swedish M40's little buddy. Its half the size. It's aluminum so its lighter. It's big enough that there is plenty of room to hold enough food for one person and have space to cook. You also get a steaming pan for more options. I would recommend it.

This item is okay. The box & the user insert are all entirely in Chinese. If they're going to sell items in America they could at least*try* some English.

I like the German WW2 style mess kits, but I've always felt that they're just too big for one person. The pail portion of the German WW2 mess kit is like two quarts, which is just way too much for one person. I always felt that if the pail portion of the kit was shrunk down by half, it would be a much more useable kit and much easier to carry. Someone read my mind because that's exactly what this is! Instead of a two quart pail. it has a one quart pail, which is plenty big enough for a single person. The frying pan portion of it is big enough to cook a trout fillet or two or maybe some hot dogs or a can of chili. It can also be used as a cup for coffee or tea or hot chocolate. The aluminum is SLIGHTLY thinner that the European mess kits, but it doesn't feel flimsy at all. I haven't cooked with it yet, so I can't speak as to how the paint will hold up. The paint is flat black, which is fine, but I wish it came in olive drab.

What’s not to like. Awesome product

This is the copy of Japanese Self Defense Force's Type 2 mess kit in aluminium. I thought its size is adequate for one person cooking. Overall quality is good. The design is well thought out. For those who prefer light-weight carry, this would suit well. I, however, have a concern that this set will not last in the camp fires. The material is rather too thin, say, compared to the replica of the post-war German Wehrmacht mess kit of the similar persuasion. I do not know, whether the original set was made with the material this thin. I am afraid an intense flame will melt the aluminium. Otherwise, fit and finish are good, the paint job is precise, the inner vessels go in and out easily. But I wish the material was thicker.
