Review: Great workout - PLEASE NOTE: Review updated to reflect excellent quality of customer service (see last paragraph). Putting the Maxi Climber together was a task--it took longer than it might usually have because some of the nuts and bolts were not attached to the machine, and I had to dig around the box to find them. That was irritating, but once I found everything, I completed construction in a few minutes. Make sure all the pieces listed in the handbook are included; there is also a DVD. The machine comes with a little wrench that allows you to screw on the bolts. You need to attach the feet very tightly. One of the most crucial pieces is the pin with a ring on it that holds the machine together with the bar at the base, and then to keep it closed when you fold it and put it away. Without that piece, you might as well return the machine. Always secure that pin and check all the screws for tightness before exercising. Another caution mentioned by another reviewer: you need to look out or you might bump a ceiling fan with the handlebars, which are quite long, so place your machine accordingly. It takes up very little space, and I love how easy it is to put away. This would fit in the smallest room or apartment. Once I had the machine put together, I decided to give it a try. Since I'm not in the greatest condition (I broke my ankle and foot in summer 2013, was bedridden for 3 months and limped for six more), I held onto the stationary bars above the timer and very cautiously put my feet on the steps before grasping the sliding bars. Everything held firm, and the machine seems very stable. The instructions warn you not to lean forward while moving. The isometric motion is amazing, working your arms against your legs. It didn't hurt my joints at all, and it actually helped my spine. Within five minutes I had already worked up a major sweat. My arms, legs, and abs are still burning as I type this. I am optimistic that this thing might actually help me get back into shape! Even if the Maxi Climber eventually breaks down after a few months, it's worth trying for $249.00, as opposed to $3000.00 for a massive tread-climber that might be next to impossible to return. desertcart has an excellent return policy, so I felt confident when buying it that, if it didn't work out, I could send it back. So, KEEP ALL YOUR PACKAGING! You may need it. One caveat: the components, while reasonably heavy, are rather thin, so I suggest you have your significant other or a friend spot you during your first workout. The maximum weight it claims to hold is 240 lbs. I will update my progress as time goes by, but I am pleased today. *UPDATE: Innova responded to my poor packaging review (separate from product review) and they made everything right. Their customer service department is very polite and will work to make certain that you are happy with your Maxi-Climber--just ask! In light of that, they get five stars for great service. I feel satisfied now that this machine will last me for a long time.
Review: Simple and effective in-house cardio equipment to get you started! - Silly as it is, I was looking for stationary, use-at-home cardio equipment. I simply needed a way to include cardio back into my daily life after a series of injuries etc. For the price, the MaxiClimber is a great way to get you started. The construction is robust enough - what do you expect at the price? Stability is up to you and part of the training. I reckon that at 6 ft. 2" and below 200 lbs., I am very much at the upper end of what size and weight of user this thing can accommodate. It's actually a good thing that I can't extend arms and legs all the way, since this would cause more strain on the joints. Also, I am able to continuously hold more balance and tension this way, adding to the effects of the exercise. Since it engages several big muscle groups in your body in almost vertical movement, it will get your heart-rate up pretty fast. If you think about it, it is a series of one-sided squats with additional arm movement. I like to use it in an interval style, mixing fast "sprints" and slower "force" elements with short rests. It is an intense cardio-workout that way and will get you properly sweating and initially quite sore. An initial start of 15-20 minutes, respectively 1,000 repetitions, should get you started nicely. Shifting your weight and balance will determine which muscle group you are using more. You can actively "pull" with your arms or just hang on for the ride, in which case your arms will only engage in an isometric hold at the top of each stroke to prevent hitting the stopper. As for toning, I did notice quite promising results very fast, but was quite out of shape before, of course. My calves and lower quads immediately reacted to it, and I even feel my inner thighs are getting a good amount of work, too. Since I like to use my arms a lot as part of the exercise, I have also seen an impact on my deltoids, pecs, forearms and biceps/triceps to some extent. The range of motion definitely engages your core, which you can also additionally tense during your workout. I quite like it and will continue to get good use out of it in the convenience of my home. If anything, I wish the plastic wheel could be lubricated more easily and that there were some way of adding more weight/resistance to the motion. Once again, you can do some of it yourself by altering your speed and balance during the motion.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is the maximum weight that the machine will hold safely?**
A: Maxi Climber product literature specifies that the maximum weight for users is 240 pounds. However, as the weight of the user goes up, the propensity for the support rollers to fail goes up also. The machine has plastic rollers that support the weight of the user and they WILL FAIL. It is unavoidable. Read all the 1 star reviews and you will see that the weak point of the machine is the plastic rollers. If you weigh more than 90 pounds, this machine will fail within 6 months of purchase. If you weigh more than 150 pounds, it will fail within 3 months and if you are near 200, it will fail within weeks.

**Q: I want to be able to strengthen and firm my thighs. Will this do it? Do you feel it burn in the thighs?**
A: It depends on how in shape you are. It is a good work out for the legs and arms. Yes you do feel the burn. It is 100 % your own body doing the work. No mechanics to assist. It is all you and what you put into it. I hope this helps.

**Q: Does it have a tension adjustment**
A: Yes. The maxi climber xl 1000 does have tension adjustment.

**Q: I've read that it folds for storage. How small does it get? Can it fit in a standard closet?**
A: It does fold in. But it is definitely still "tall" - so you'd need at least 7+" of clearance.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Surprisingly good workout and for the price, it is a good cardio machine. But customer service is not up to standard at all.
*by A***N on May 9, 2018*

I am a tennis coach and I work out religiously, almost 7 days a week. Weights, running/cardio & of course playing tennis. I was looking for a good cardio machine that can give me a hard & quick cardio/leg work out and after researching and thinking about it for a while, I decided to give this Maxi Climber a try. Assemble was very easy and only took me 10 mins. clear instruction and very easy to assemble. Construction of machine was not so bad. For the price, it is sturdy and as long as you have the right form to exercise, it does not wobble. By the way, I am 5'10" & 175 lbs. It make some noise while working out, but I guess that is expected and not that loud anyway. During work out, I was able to watch and listen to TV. Also it is rather light, so you can move it around easily. This machine gave me a good 20 min workout. About 5 min into it, I was starting to sweat and in 20 min, I was sweating A LOT and I felt like it was enough for the first day of work out. Probably as I do more, it would get easier, but I must say that it was giving me a pretty good cardio and leg work out. I do not know about entire body work out, but definitely good for leg work out & cardio. Now, about Cons. To me, the main biggest problem was the foot petals. They are studded like the bottom of cleats, so doing it with barefoot wasn't ideal, however, I guess that wasn't meant to use it with barefoot. However, for me, the size of the petals were too small. It is not that my feet is big (size 10 which is normal for a man), but they weren't long enough that my inner knees were keep hitting the plastic cover in the middle of the machine. So I had to consciously step up and down bit outward. Just hope that they would had made the petals bit bigger and longer. As I said before, as far as workout is concerned, it is pretty good. As long as I can keep my good posture and keep it going, certainly it can give me better cardio than running or other simple form of cardio exercises in shorter time. Some people complain about knee pain. I also have some knee problems due to long running and playing tennis, so I have been taking medicine for over 10 years. I just hope that this machine would not give me any knee pain. We will see how it goes and I will update couple of weeks later on. By the way, I would have, could have given 4 stars for this machine, but the reason for 2 star is that Maxi Climber's customer service isn't as good as it should be. When I received the machine, the "personal workout timer" wasn't working at all. Either it was broken or battery was dead. So rather than returning it for refund or exchange, I gave their customer service an email asking for new battery for the timer. Below is the response I got from Miranda from the company. =============================================================================================== Thank you so much for your email. Sometimes during shipping, a few things can happen that would affect the life of the battery. Remove the meter from the plastic base assure the white cable is connected tightly. Try replacing the battery, you can purchase a battery LR44 at your local dept store. Miranda Maxi Climber Customer Support Team ================================================================================================ They were asking me to buy the battery on my own when their product was defective or out of battery. So I emailed them back asking to send me a new battery, but no reply. I do hope that they can send me the battery as soon as possible and if they do not response at all, I will return the entire unit because when and if I run into any warranty problems later on, I do not think that they will take care of it when they do not even have courtesy to send me one battery immediately. UPDATE ON MAY 17, 2018 I have been working out on this for last couple of weeks. My first work out was about 15 min which was hard and got me sweaty real quick. Then, slowly, I increased the work out and now I am doing it about 40 min. Initially I gave it two stars but I upgraded to 4 stars because it is a good machine (even though I still feel that it is not really well constructed and have some doubt that it might break or go something wrong in a month or two...) and so far giving me very good work outs. Definitely it is tougher than running nor elliptical machine. 40 min work out gave me about 500 calories which I think more or less accurate, considering the work out. anyway, I will update some more in about few weeks from now.
