Review: Good quality kit, easy to install - I was looking for something unobtrusive to install as I needed background ventilation to pass building regulations on a new room. This kit is of good quality and fits together pretty well. The opening mechanism on the internal vent is a little sticky on receipt but a quick spray with WD40 Silicon spray has it running very smoothly. It's easy to install and feels solid enough. The internal unit has a nice foam insert to prevent draughts and insects getting into the house. I was pleased with this kit and would buy one again. A number of the reviews have criticised the lack of instructions, but this is a very simple kit and a competent DIYer will be able to work it out easily. Review: Seems quite well thought out. - We made this vent our first choice out of the three that I managed to research because it seemed to tick most of the boxes , firstly the outside vent was directed downwards to negate possible draught,the plastic pipe was telescopic so no cutting The inner vent has adjustable shutter to vary the flow through and the intake was to the side which again negates the possibility of draught and in my opinion looks a bit more aesthetically pleasing.No instructions,there is two small plastic cones and a bit of cord that I am not sure what to do with ,I suspect they are another way of opening the vent .The vent operation was very stiff but this was overcome with a smearing of clear silicon grease making it a lot smoother .The operating slider can be placed on the top or the bottom of the vent ,I ended up putting it at the bottom. Trapped damp air in a loft space could cause issues in the loft. This item appears to be designed for an external wall. Best installed pointing slightly "downhill" I understand, to the outside, so that any condensed water inside it can run downhill to the outside of the dwelling. I am not sure how this would work if installed vertically. **Q: Can i connect this to a tile vent?as have a bedroom in the loft.** A: The ducting for the unit is rigid so you would need to purchase flexible duct to get the correct angle to meet the tile vent. **Q: where is the best place on the wall to fit this vent?** A: Firstly, it should be mounted on an outside wall, around 150mm from the ceiling. If you already have a air ventilation shaft it's most practical to use this as it usually in an appropriate place and removes the requirement to core drill a new shaft. You should also check accessibility as you will need to get to the extractor from the outside to complete fitting. You will also require internally 240v power so that will also be a consideration. It caused black mould on the ceiling and had become a real health hazard. We honestly thought, due to the cheap price, that this vent might, at best, slightly lessen the amount of water on the window. In fact, it has completely solved the problem, even after the extremely cold weather of the last few months. There is now almost no condensation on the window in the morning. Please note that we did also add extra roof insulation at the same time so I guess this might have helped too, although there is a line of thought that roof insulation actually makes condensation worse as the water can’t escape through the ceiling?? If this is the case then this cheap little vent is even more effective! Once the hole was drilled, installation was simple.
