I'm a short, narrow shouldered person and I was actually able to use the short straps as a backpack in a desperate moment of too much luggage and too few hands. It traveled, checked, internationally with me so it was quite a test. I did use suitcase straps around it after seeing the zipper reviews and had no issues. The bottom stand half broke off and we had to pull it off the rest of the way, which is why it loses half a star, but I think I'll be able to fix it with screws later and it really didn't make much difference in its use. It also gets credit because the airport handling broke 2 wheels and the entire bottom corner off my other, more expensive, suitcase, so I think it's amazing this one had so little damage!
