If you need internet on the move, this is the one!
Late to the review but honestly, if you're thinking of getting a mobile router BUY THIS ONE! Yes it's pricey, but it has become an invaluable piece of kit for me. I work in video production so often deal with files of 2GBs or more - and this thing turns 4G/5G simcard data into super speedy internet. I've used it all across the UK/Europe and Africa so far in the last year and never had a problem.

Recommend!
I just moved onto a narrowboat and work from the boat daily. I did my research before buying a source of Internet, it was either something like this or Starlink. However the biggest drawback of Starlink is its very expensive and draws a lot of power. Knowing I am based at a permanent mooring for the time being and the 5G signal being very good here I decided to give this a try. I am very happy with my purchase. It has been used daily non stop and hasnt missed a beat yet. The speeds I am getting vary from 20-200 mbps but I havent noticed any drops or outages. And I havent even used an external ariel yet. The battery is great, it lasts more than a day on a full charge of constant use. Definitely recommend!

Ok but not worth it.
It's good for what it is however it's WAY over priced Netgear seem to have the idea to pump out mideocre products and charge a small fortune for them. If they just built in an active cooling system into there portable WiFi devices and a small stand included it would be on but they come out with things like this and call it evolutionary and claim lots of R&D went into it. I would advise to just use a usb c to ethernet adapter or use alternative products from other companies such as GLINET or TPlink of D-link as they are of the same build quality and at a more reasonable price and also have better service and signal. I purchased this as my old NETGEAR M5 No longer receives updates or security patches. The fact is that netgear will abandon this product in 6-12 months leaving you with bugging unfinished products it's not worth the cost. I would avoid them if you can and wait for alternative products from other manufacturers. Update: E-SIM support is awful I have tried to add 2 esims from smarty and EE however the device refuses to add them. Attempted to contact Netgear unable to get through to someone. At this point the device is becoming more of a paperweight than a useful piece of technology.

Well worth having
I should have bought this years ago. Not sure if the newer one is any better, or if you need that for the extra money. I don’t think i would get 13 hrs battery life but this is more than i need to work on the road. I am away from the office and done a few speed tests in the weeks that i have had it. Today i am getting 1.0GB / 950 Mbps which is amazing. I got the unlimited data SIM from EE (via Amazon) and don’t regret the upfront cost. Together they are working brilliantly and i cant fault it them. I have already forgot the password i did on set up which doesn’t help but i can cope with that. One criticism rather than a fault, is the one button on the router makes it a little difficult to navigate but once set up all you really need is the power one - or at least for what i do. It connects effortlessly to my iPad, phone and laptop and does what it needs to. On one site where my phone gets very little signal, I still managed to get 150Mbs.

Its OK, depends on your sim network
I got this to be a back up for data access on the go, I live in Prestwick in Ayrshire, all the networks CLAIM to have 4G but in reality, non really deliver its always hit n miss, I bought Smarty unlimited data sim at £20, they use "the 3' network it shows 4G on my device right at the mast but you can see clearly from the speed tests in NO WAY do you get 4G speeds, in London you might, in Manchester you might, in Liverpool you might but rest of UK esp here on Scotland you wont get much at all above the odd 50 mb download so never expect 1gb, its not going to happen. Now we tested several devices connected same time, it was ok to start depending on network, but 4 or more caused lag and often will drop off network totally. The kit itself is small, neat and smart, easy to set up BUT you will really need to delve deep into the best sim or sims to get depending on your network area coverage in my case I bought a Smarty Sim at £20 unlimited data only on The Three network, the same deal on Three actual network web site is £34. EE were around £29 for just 70mb, so it depends on what you think you need data wise and to be fair £20 for unlimited on Smarty was best deal in the UK I can find. Charge time seems fine at around 2 hrs for full charge and around 8 hrs data time, depending on network access and numbrr of devices connected. A pont to note is that from time to time you do check uour connection as for some odd reason it does disconnect for no reason. Other wise its a neat bit of kit that does work and connects - but do your homework on best network(s) will work for your area.

Excellent 4g/5g router
Got this for weekend off-gridding at our hut. We're not in a great signal area but managed to pick up three bar with a smarty data only SIM. I've since fitted a Nelawya 4g/5g directional mimo antenna and it has improved it greatly, doubling the download speed. The only thing to watch out for is that the TS9 pins are quite fragile and sometimes it doesn't feel like they'll stay in. Would recommend but research the signal in the area first before you choose your provider.

Works with EE - up to 123mbs!
I work in IT remotely in the Scottish Highlands with local BT broadband delivering insufficient speeds for both download and (increasingly important for zoom/teams calls) upload. Hence the need for a 4G router. This unit, in conjunction with a Poynting 4G-XPOL-A0002 directional antenna is making the most of the two bar signal from the nearest mast on the EE network. Typical download speed is 70 mbs but I’ve seen 123 recently! Upload is consistent at about 10mbs. My work colleagues in different cities/towns in the UK can’t believe it when I screenshare the results of a speedtest (and neither can I). Like some other reviewers it did seem to take a lot more fiddling (and frustration) to setup than I’d expect. It really ought to just be a case of popping in the SIM and away you go, but for some reason it wasn’t straightforward. My top tip, if you’ve just got yourself a new SIM is to put it in your phone and do the initial activation & top up there FIRST to ensure the SIM is fully working. Only once you’re 100% sure that the SIM is working should you then proceed to use that SIM in this device. It’s only a hunch but I think that may have been the cause of some of my initial setup trauma. The unit itself feels really solid & well made. Being battery powered means it will keep working for a number of hours (I think the claim is 7?) without mains power- handy if used at home with possible power cuts. The app that comes with it (or the website used for config) has all of the features you’d expect. I use the unit as effectively our full time home router and have it plugged into the mains at all times, without the battery in place. (The battery is fully charged and just left to one side in case of power cuts - pop it in and within a couple of minutes the router is back up again). Batteries are not meant to have power flowing through them constantly and some users have reported the battery getting too hot (causing the device to shut down) and even becoming misshapen/leaking under prolonged constant charging. So if you’re planning on leaving it on all the time, I’d strongly suggest leaving out the battery. It’s important to realise that the supplied USB charger does NOT provide sufficient power to charge the unit if it is also under heavy active use at the same time. This can lead to the device powering off randomly and I suspect is the cause of some of the dissatisfaction from some users. Simply purchase a decent charger (for about £15) to solve that problem. I bought a “Quick Charge 3.0, Anker 18W 3Amp USB Wall Charger (Quick Charge 2.0 Compatible) Powerport+ 1” device from Amazon. So, ensure you use a SIM that’s already setup, buy a decent charger, and don’t leave the battery in (if you’re leaving it on constantly as a home router) and my experience has been that it’s a cracking little device and worth the extra money over cheaper devices.

Review of warehouse product that was not fully functional
First off, I have used Netgear routers before and always found them to have great functionality and long lasting with firmware updates/support available long after I have changed model. This however was sold at a reduced price from Amazon warehouse and I believed it was similar to the programme run by a major phone/laptop/tablet manufacturer, where even the boxes are re-shrink wrapped. This could not have been further from my expectations. The item arrived in a small cardboard box with packing paper stuffed in. No manual, no bag or product box. The screen had fine scratches on it and once I had found a charging cable, it refused to stay on long enough to try and work out why it was not working. I tried several sims and although these connected to the network (as they do on another dongle that I have been using), they refused access to my devices on this. After a frustrating day (abroad) trying to get this to work, I had to buy a dedicated dual band 4G router from a competitor. I cannot comment on performance overall but the battery was surprising (virtually DOA), which is surprising as these units were only released in the UK in late 2017 I believe. The screen is quite small to read and I think this could be improved on. Set up is straightforward (normally). The ethernet port is appealing on these along with the TS-9 ports, but I did not get a chance to test this. Amazon have been great and resolved this quickly and refunded my outlay. However I am really surprised at the overall quality. I have bought things at car boot sales that looked more appealing. From what I understand, the products are direct from the manufacturer via the warehouse - even more of a reason to insist on excellent quality control, which was sadly lacking this time. The model has since been superseded by the M2 version but I will probably wait for the 5G (M6) to come down in price and next time around try and get it new.

Netgear Versione M7 Pro Il Peggiore Acquisto Mai Fatto Nel 2025
