Blend beautifully with water and you can add a lot of water for "color lifting." Colors blend together seamlessly. Can also go back over and reactivate with more water. The brush tip enables you to lay down a thin line or turn it to lay down a larger wash. I use them on 300 gsm watercolor paper to achieve the heavy water blending and lifting. Also can be used in journals with thinner paper. Coverage is superb. Expensive, but you really do get what you pay for. Look for sales on these. If you can get them for roughly a dollar apiece then grab it! They are worth so much more. Highly recommend! Just an edit: These are not markers. They are brush pens. Very different! My first being a random cheapie off Amazon, then I upgrade to a large set of Arteza, then after learning the medium, I researched brands for my final purchase, money not being a factor. I am an oil painter originally, but these are very fun and this is such a good,quality product. Rich pigment and way way better blending than the Arteza, without the brush marks left behind if youre a bit slow to grab your water brush. I did a little patch test of several colors from all three brands, side by side and the black ink from the Kuretake set is so dark and beautiful even when I move it around with the water. The other two blacks turned grayish brown. Of course you can make gray, I am only referring to a very small about of water for the patch tests. Also to note, in my research, I found that the 90 set came with a lot of very pale colors that I thought seemed worth it. Of course you can mix anything with the 80 or smaller but as my main work is people, I love these extra 10 colors.
