I thought it was the finest blues/soul album I'd heard, and was one of the best blues albums to come out in a long time. I was nervous when I heard Robert Finley had been working with Dan Auerbach, because I'm a huge JD McPherson fan & wasn't crazy about the direction he went w/ his sound after hanging out with Dan (it was more that I felt the production sounded "synthetic" than anything specific with the music). So it was with a lot of hesitation that I put this album on. But the first time I dropped the needle on this album, I was BLOWN AWAY. This album is absolutely incredible. The sound is definitely different from his first album, but in no way is it inferior. The change in sound feels organic, and not forced. The songs are almost universally superior to his first album, and represents a huge leap forward. Maybe it's not quite as wonderful as I had hoped, but it's nonetheless a very impressive album, and ends on a truly dynamic note with the amazing "Holy Wine," a flat-out great, great song that will take your breath away. Finley has a rich, expressive voice that elevates even some of the lackluster material on here. Definitely a guy you need to hear, particularly if you love classic soul in the vein of Al Green, Otis Clay, or James Carr. Soul power!
