Great hatch rate and healthy chicks!
I’ve never hatched baby chicks before but was able to get eggs that were suspected of being fertile from a friend with a bunch of chickens. I tried to build a fish tank style DIY incubator and the temperature fluctuated a ton so I opted for the Magic Fly Incubator and I’m glad I did! It was quite easy to use and the automatic egg turner works well- I have no deformed or splay legged babies and all are healthy!! I watched a YouTube video by the “ Under Three Acres “ channel and they explained how to use it if you’re more of a visual person, through the instructions were quite clear, Before use I scrubbed the bottom reservoir, two bottom mesh “shelves” and the tray that fits the eggs for the auto rotating feature all with hot soapy water. The unit itself looked quite clean but I find that reducing the bacteria you’re starting out with is a good idea! I had eggs ranging from medium to extra large (all from a bunch of different breeds of chicken) and I was able to fit 9 into the auto turner tray. If you plan on manually turning them you could probably fit 12. I used an outdoor/indoor weather station thermometer to check the temperature, and for the most part it was pretty on point and fluctuated by a degree or two maximum. When the incubator was near my kitchen table I had more air drafts and there was greater fluctuation but once I moved it to my guest room it was quite stable! I usually had it set between 37.6 and 38.2 C. I also purchased an inexpensive reptile humidity gauge from Zoo Med and after calibrating it to the humidity displayed in my weather station it read humidity constantly and I was able to check humidity without lifting the lid. I needed about 40mL of water every day or two to maintain proper humidity. Bonus was the fan inside the incubator that circulated the air and this seemed to avoid creating uneven temperature spots. Our overall hatch rate out of 9 eggs was 66%, but two eggs were not fertile to begin with and the last one died late into development. All in all a great little product, especially at this price point!!

100% Hatch Rate!!
Ok, so due to the mixed reviews on this I bought this with the attitude of WTH, lets see how it goes. Now I should note that I am a newbie to hatching anything and only got ducks last summer. My girl started laying and I have males so I wanted to hatch some of her eggs out for more ducklings to add to the group. My first batch of 6 ducklings went amazing! They all hatched out, and i did almost nothing! I did not rotate them or spray them, I did add water to the bottom as directed to keep humidity up. Literally all I did was follow the set up instructions included and everything went as planned. Currently i have hatched out 4 clutches of sweedish blue duck eggs and have not had a single egg not hatch as planned. The heating element works great and got up to temp without an issue. I can hear the fan working to circulate air as it should and i can see that it is turning the eggs slowly as it should. It has now been on and working great for 3 months straight. I should mention that my room has reptiles it in *(snakes and geckos), so it is a temperature controlled room set to 70* all the time. Those who have had issues with temperatures fluctuating likely have the incubator set up in an area that does not have a consistent temperature, so I would recommend keeping this in mind when deciding where to place this in the house. I also have left the incubator on all the time, not turning it off in between clutches of eggs. I figured that as with many heating sources, the more you turn it on and off the faster it will end up burning out and needing to be replaced. Over all, this has worked wonderfully and I have had all of my ducklings hatch without having to fiddle with a thing. I would defiantly recommend this to anyone!

It's a sturdy incubator. The egg turner worked well.
Updated review: Since my initial review, I’ve used the incubator several times and had very good results. The eggs that were fertile all developed. The incubator is significantly better than the styrofoam ones with keeping temperature though I do use an additional hygrometer to measure both temp and humidity. I changed the 3 to a 4 star review based on maintaining temperature once set and humidity as well. I move my eggs to another incubator w windows for lockdown so we can see the chicks hatch. I do, however, think this is a great incubator for novices and small hatches. I bought this to hatch some fertile eggs. Pros: It's a sturdy incubator. The egg turner worked well. Temp gauge was easy to set. cons: temp fluctuates a bit and needed to be adjusted a few times to maintain 99.5 degrees F., can't see the little chicks well when hatching, egg turner is smaller than the 9-12 advertised and is best suited for about 8 large chicken eggs. The temp gauge may have been reason for the high loss of egg life but not sure. The instructions are terrible. Major internet search and YouTube to learn. As this was my first hatch, I did get 3/12 to hatch with 2 being infertile and 7 showing embryonic development but sadly failing to complete incubation. This is not a simple add water and set to 38 degrees as some have stated but I do understand time of year and state of use can affect things. I plan to try another batch of eggs.

Perfect for this backyard chicken farmer, see my pros and cons list for details!
UPDATE: 4/7/2017 Sorry this update is late. Unfortunately the first batch of eggs did not make it, trial and error. When I opened them up it was obvious MOST had died about a week ago. Some weren't even viable. One that did hatch just didn't make it. HOWEVER.......I started a new batch that day with FRESH eggs that I knew were absolutely fertilized, still warm, straight from the nesting boxes. These eggs hatched about three days ago and out of 8 eggs 5 hatched. The trick is to make sure that there IS NOT as much water about a day before they hatch. When they started hatching the heat from the eggs raised the humidity and the chicks just weren't getting dry. I eventually had to put them in their brooder before they were completely dry and they are doing very well! I plan on starting another batch in a few weeks. So far the brooder has held up impeccably well despite being run for nearly 2 months straight! AS FOR THE TEMPERATURE FLUCTUATION: I put a BRAND NEW thermometer in the incubator and realized that the thermometer I had was wrong (and subsequently tossed out). SO, the incubator IS in fact keeping the correct temperature however be sure to check it if you're unsure. Still a great purchase!! Before I had given it 4/5 stars, I'm updating it to 5/5! _____________________________________________________________________ As of today 3/4/17 this item works VERY well for the price that it is. It fits 9 Jumbo sized chicken eggs quite well but can't fit anymore than that. I put my fertilized eggs in there just yesterday and WILL update when hatching day arrives including the condition of eggs. It seems fairly simple enough, the directions seem to have been translated so the english is a bit hard to decipher. The directions could certainly be clearer and it was a little difficult to read the wall of text, the pictures were definitely more helpful. Right when you open it there are several trays, the white ones and the black one, a little bag with a fuse inside, the power cord, and the tray dividers. Place the smaller of the trays at the bottom, this is the hatching tray and also allows the larger white tray to reach the egg turner. I put about a 1/4 cup of hot water on the bottom including a wet paper towel to help with humidity. The egg tray is simple enough, arrange the eggs so that they have room to turn and place the dividers. The picture they have in the directions is probably for medium/large sized chicken eggs. My jumbo eggs were definitely snug and only 9 of them fit. This is adjustable so if you are going to be doing larger eggs such as turkey or smaller eggs such as quail it WILL accomodate them. The eggs have been in there for approximately 24 hours. I had them in a homemade incubator for a little over a week so I know they are viable and I have definitely seen movement. This incubator is completely hands off HOWEVER I did place an instant read thermometer inside (through the little hole at the top) and it reads 95-100F when I set the temperature at 38.4C. This is something you may want to look into. A little cooling is ok since in nature Mama bird isn't on the eggs 24/7. As long as they don't cool off too much I don't see a problem. I really love that it turns them automatically and I haven't had a problem with that. RESIST THE URGE TO OPEN AND CHECK ON THEM. All in all I believe this is a great purchase. It is perfect for a small backyard chicken keeper like myself, doesn't take up any space, is fairly quiet other than the small fan noise like a computer, and keeps the temperature regulated near perfectly. PROS: Doesn't take up any space QUIET Tray is adjustable (HOLDS 9 JUMBO CHICKEN EGGS for me) Temperature is near perfect Automatic turner works very well Small CONS: Temperature does fluctuate a bit (about 5 degrees), put an instant read thermometer inside if you're concerned. No way to monitor humidity other than purchasing a reader Like I said, perfect for a small farmer. This is perfect for me to hatch out some chicks to refresh my flock without purchasing hatching eggs or hatched chicks. Some things I just thought about to help with the temperature fluctuation would be putting it with towels around it maybe nestled in a cardboard box. Or keep it someplace in your house where it's naturally warm. I have mine in my bedroom where it does tend to be on the cooler side. I WILL UPDATE WHEN THE CHICKS HATCH! They're due the 14th of March.

This machine gun racket is driving me insane
I started the incubator 2 days before the eggs went in just so I could check everything. The temperature was spot on, the humidity was fine, it seemed easy to set up. I put in duck eggs, so I didn't use the auto turner tray and planned to hand rotate. Day 3... the noise started. It started with just a random "squabble squabble", like an exhausted prisoner scraping away at a rock tunnel with a plastic spoon. By Day 15 I fully thought the ducks were trying to break out 12 days early. By day 20 (duck eggs take 28 +a day or 4 to break out), every one on meetings with me heard the racket through my noise cancelling fancy headset. The noise-cancelling is a lie and I'm ready to complain there too! Day 25- we have entered a tiny war zone with incessant machine-gun fire. I don't have any other places to move my 2 lone Cayuga's as they wage full war with the calcium encased captors. Day 30- They've pipped! This war may be over soon! I swear on the blood of my fathers young, brave Cayuga 2- this war shall not end in vain. Though four of your brethren have long since fallen, today you have begun your final assault on your calcium captors and I vow that once you are victorious I shall slay their monstrous leader with one fell toss to the pile of eternal darkness never to be seen again! TL, DR: Started with 6 Cayagu Duck eggs, am down to 2. The increasingly ridiculously loud and bothersome noise may be effecting my sanity. The attached video is from my phone- for some reason the first 10 seconds of video I record on my phone are partly muted. Wait until the 10 second mark. It really is this bad. I really do hear it with my actually really good quality noise-cancelling headset, and so do all of my clients :( Next year we are getting geese.

Works for Small parrots too like budgies and Cockatiels
I bought this to test some of the eggs from a clutch my budgies were about to have. I hand feed cockatiels from the day they hatch and was hoping to do budgies as well. I have experience incubating eggs and hatching them from other more expensive incubators, but the one I has doesn't rotate the eggs and I dislike dropping the temperature every few hours to rotate eggs. I read a bunch of reviews on this and watched more on Youtube about how this is a knock off of an actual brands incubator. Even so, they all gave it good reviews for chicken eggs. The reviews I did see for parrot eggs said it fried their eggs, but I figured that was either a bad unit or a error on the user because eggs incubated at the right temperature and humidity regardless of what the box looks like should hatch. Another review I read said it worked for quail eggs, but he didn't trust the rotator for smaller eggs, so I wanted to test that too. I took some infertile cockatiel and budgie eggs and stuck them in there for two days with a thermometer hydrometer to see if the temp kept, or if rotator would crack the eggs, the temperature was consistent and the eggs didn't crack so, I tried two fertile budgie eggs as soon as they were laid and 21 days later on Dec 1st 2020 a baby budgie was born. two days from now I'm confident the other will hatch which is how far apart they were laid. So, this truly is a set it and forget it incubator. I filled the water once and it lasted the entire time. the rotator works great. With parrot eggs if its your first time you take the the rotator out 3 days before they are suppose to hatch just like chicken eggs and the temperature for smaller eggs is 37.5 c. The cost is great compared to the 180 I spent on my more expensive one. So, don't be afraid to set and forget as long as you keep and eye on the temp and set up the rotator up right with the bars big enough where the eggs aren't squeezed in. Good luck with your breeding and thanks for reading.

Works, but is a pain in the a$$.
I bought this hoping to hatch some of my chickens eggs. I’m happy to say that I actually had a 100% hatch rate. I put 7 eggs in and got 7 chicks out 21 days later. However, trying to understand the directions included is impossible. It took many google and YouTube searches to find a video where someone could explain how to work this thing. Once I found it and played around with the settings I was able to successfully put it to work. But! If you do buy this make sure you have a second thermometer and humidity reader inside, as the temperature readings will differ greatly between the actual reading on the incubator and on your own thermometer. I had to recalibrate the temperature reading on many occasions throughout the process which is really frustrating, and a few times I was worried my temps had dropped to low. On day 18 when I removed the egg turner and the plate it goes on, is when I encountered the biggest problem. It’s almost as if the incubator could not hold a steady temperature. Had I not been working from home during this time I probably would have lost the chicks. No matter how many times I tried to recalibrate it it just could not hold a steady temp so I was constantly having to adjust it. I’m sure there are much better incubators out there but for 86$ this worked as I would expect. If you’re looking for accuracy and something you can just leave and come back to when the eggs are hatched this is not for you. I would suggest always keeping a watchful eye on it.

Great Chick Gitter!
I did a lot of research before purchasing this incubator. It paid off. Very easy to use, though the instructions made my head hurt. I left the temp set at 38c, put water in when necessary and 21 days later 6 out of 9 eggs hatched. This is the first batch of chicks I have ever hatched. I had a broody hen sit on 9 eggs recently and she only got 4 to hatch. Don't waste time or money on any thing else. If you want to hatch bigger batches buy two. We have hatched two more batches since the first review. The second 4 out of 4 hatched and the third 12 out of 12. This thing is so simple to use. Ignore the directions they will just make your head hurt. Make sure it is clean, put in the turner grid, (it has rails on top of the grid for the turning frame to ride between. Pour a little water in the bottom then place the eggs in and close it. Every two days check to see if it needs water if so add a little and close it back up. There is a metal pin that sticks down from inside the top. Make sure when you put the top back on that the pin goes into the slot of the handle of the turning frame, that is how the eggs are turned. On the 18th day remove the turner, remove the eggs, remove the turner grid and replace it with the hatching grid and close it back up. In 3 days you have chicks. It will hold 9 large brown eggs (Rhode Island Red) and 12 smaller eggs. (Ours are white and from a breed called Silver Grey Dorkings.) If you want simplicity and reliability this is the right incubator. Ooops p.s. When removing chicks after they have hatched I sometimes put in a paper towel soaked in hot water to replace the humidity lost when the incubator is opened. Other than this I do not concern myself with humidity. Other than a little water from time to time you set this and forget it and everything comes out great.

First Ever Hatch
This is my first ever hatch!! I researched for quite sometime before I decided on an incubator that was reasonably priced for the amount of eggs I wanted to hatch. I'm so very pleased that I made my final decision on this Magicfly Digital Mini Automatic Egg Incubator. I received my incubator and the black plastic square that holds the eggs in was broken (probably from the cold), I reached out to the seller and he took immediate action and offered me 2 options - get a refund or ship me a new part. Of course I chose the new part, it was shipped to me fairly quickly actually a lot quicker than what the incubator itself took to arrive. GREAT SERVICE, I highly recommend this seller if you are looking to buy a 9-12 egg incubator! I was so excited with the hatch that I ended up putting some more eggs in the incubator!! **************** BEST STAR RATING to this seller!!

Do not open for 48 hours after hatching starts
Simple to use. Put more water in than it says too and you won’t have any problems with humidity. Works great. The times it went over temp it was low on water

Wouldn't maintain temperature, great customer service
I bought this incubator based in all the good reviews that I read online and maybe I just got a bad one. My first hatch only had three quail chicks come out of the 16 eggs that I placed in the incubator. So I started testing the product at a temp of 37.5C on the monitor and placed a temperature and humidity gauge in the unit. Over the last two days I've had temps ranging from 32C to 35C and humidity bouncing all over the place. So starting the return process for this unit, hopefully I don't have to cover the shipping cost of a defective unit. Update: the company made the return process as easy as possible and the shipping was covered by the company. I increased the stars to 3 because the customer service was so good.

Very disappointed -Unsuccessful hatching rate- Do Not Recommend
I bought this incubator for the convenience of the automatic turner and the reasonable price. I have been hatching eggs in my classroom for the last 3 years with a very successful hatching rate with a manual incubator. I found the Magic fly Mini incubator easy to set up. I bought a hygrometer to keep track of the humidity as it did not have one. Unfortunately, the water compartment does not have 2 separate channels for water. There should be a compartment for water during the first18 days and an additional compartment for water during the lockdown to increase the humidity. It asks that you add between 60 to 100ml of water throughout the 21 days, but having to eyeball the water levels brought the humidity up and down constantly during the entire incubation period. I had to put water every day because of how much the humidity would fluctuate up and down. In the end, I could only fit 6 large chicken eggs in the turner and only 2 chickens hatched successfully. The other 4 eggs were fertilized but did not fully develop. I am sure the humidity level had a lot to do with it.
