Thoroughly Researched
It is best to find authors who have actually suffered from this condition as there are tiny details about the condition that only a sufferer or former sufferer can know. Laura is very good, explicit without being too complicated but above all she is a ray of hope. She has kept the topics covered short and to the point. As someone with the condition, reading the book from start to finish would be a pipe dream. I can only dip into sections that I need to know about sharpish e.g. ways to cope and what supplements to buy. At this point I care not about what has caused this problem I only want to know what to do to be able to manage the condition or cure it.From what I could concentrate on and understand, I felt relieved to have found a fellow sufferer who has done all the research. I zoomed in on a simplest survival technique - how to mask the intrusive sounds. Great ideas here she mentioned a website called 'mynoise' which I had been unaware of. She mentions the possibility of a hearing aid - never considered this before. I've noticed that the advertised hearing aids of today are very tiny and technologically advanced compared to what our grandparents had to use. Food for thought and optimism. And those two bits mentioned took concentration of less than 5 minutes as that is the best I could do for the present but I am working on it.All her research is relevant in one way or another but someone with intense anxiety and intrusive ear noise may not be able to read it as you would read, say, a novel. However, when you feel calmer, and the tinnitus softens a bit, you will be able to apply a selection of her suggestions to suit your lifestyle. I don't understand why Doctors of Medicine leave patients high and dry by saying there is no cure and you've just got to live with it as mine did. This only makes the condition worse and the patient more anxious and panicky this cannot be good for ones blood pressure or general health. I had always believed that the number one rule for all Medical Doctors was not to make a condition worse than it already is. By saying that nothing can be done and just learn to live with it goes against this rule.Managing the condition to the extent that it is no longer bothersome, is almost as good as a cure in my books. But the medical establishment have not done their work on how to treat patients with tinnitus. If they have not done the research they should be honest enough to say so and steer patients to where they can find information on the condition e.g. online and alternative therapies etc.I recommend this book would be handy for entire families to provide them with a sympathetic insight regarding what this condition means to a member of the family with the condition. Well done Laura.

A really good book with plenty of practical information
This book is packed with solid information. It is based on several years of research by Ms Cole, who contracted severe tinnitus suddenly in 2014. It offers an explanation of the causes and practical treatment of this debilitating condition. Tinnitus seems not to be well understood as yet; not least because it can have a variety of causes, not simply exposure to excessive noise. It can arise (as in Ms Cole’s case) with no obvious trigger event. Treatments available are also varied. The book outlines numerous treatment options. The book also explains that tinnitus is not necessarily a hearing disorder, as such, but an issue with the wiring of the brain (my word choice). Treatment will need to take this into account.Having served in the Royal Artillery for around a dozen years, with consequent frequent exposure to loud noise, despite using hearing protection, I have suffered (relatively mild) tinnitus for over half my life. One of the most important pieces of information I gained from reading this excellent book is that the condition is treatable, although that treatment can take time. I had thought that my condition would be life-long and that the only response would be to learn to live with it. This book offers hope, which for those with severe tinnitus may be, almost literally, a lifesaver.I found this book to be well researched, detailed and above all practical. You can dip into the sections that seem most important but I feel the book will repay reading cover to cover. Highly recommended.

Writing style is a bit tedious
Has some useful information for tinnitus sufferers like myself but is a bit boring and repetitive in places.

A valuable resource.
I came across quite a lot of familiar ground reading this book. For anyone who has recently acquired tinnitus, this book is well worth reading. what I particularly like is that there are copious links to relevant research and other related matter. add to that, the DIY ACRN protocol and notched therapy will be a lifesaver to anyone on a tight budget ( some professionals will charge an arm and a leg for this kind of treatment ) do yourself a favour, If you have just acquired tinnitus, grab this book. there is good solid advice in here.

PRINT SIZE
TWO THINGS, THE PRINT SIZE WAS WAY TOO SMALL FOR ME PLUS THE REVIEWS WERE NOT... ENCOURAGING. HELP WITH COPING ( LET ALONE CURE F0R FOR TINTUS) IS ASKING A LOT I AGREE BUT SOME REVIEWERS SERIOUSLY CRITISISED THE VALIDITY OF THIS BOOK. I AM THEREFORE RETURNING IT BECAUSE, AS SOON AS I SAW THE SMALL PRINT I KNEW ANYWAY I COULDN'T READ IT BUT A STRAIGHTFORWARD BOOK SOMETIME WITH DEVICES THAT CAN POSSIBLY EASE OIR MAKE ONE FORGET THE CONDITION FOR EVEN A SHORT WHILE WOULD BE A GREAT BOON. IM NOT SURE UNDERSTANDING THE INS AND OUTS OF IT IS.

A great resource for all that involves Tinnitus.
Laura covers all that is relevant in todays struggle with T. The book is over 400 pages and she puts a personal touch to it all. The reader knows Laura has been there and she looked under every rock to find all the relevant information, so the reader knows all that is out there. No stone is unturned.Growing up a big fan of Mr. Spock, I can relate to her advice to be more like him in the journey to habituate from T. I truly have an emotional brain that I deal with every day, the book has some handy tips and guidance.I have read it twice over 4 years, when my T gets intrusive.

It's OK
It didn't tell me anything I didn't already know, but it might be useful for someone who knows less.

Very informative!
When I found myself suffering with tinnitus I began doing research for myself on this dibilitating condition since GP’s and ENT’s offered no help. I stumbled upon this book. I immediately purchased it and couldn’t put it down! This book opened my eyes to so much I never would have known about tinnitus as well as started my path to healing. I believe without this book I would still be suffering as much as I was in my first month of dealing with tinnitus. I recommend this book to anyone looking for answers and solutions in coping with such an overwhelming malfunction of the brain. Thank you Laura for writing this for me and other fellow sufferers.
