## Description

Assemble your hand of cards, play their effects, and take the initiative to stop the round. Will you dare to give your opponents one last turn to try to maximize your own points? In Sea Salt & Paper players are trying to manage their hand and collect sets of cards. On your turn you may either draw 2 cards from the deck, keep 1, and discard the other face up, or take the topmost card of 1 discard pile. You may then play matching pairs from your hand to take special effects like stealing a card from your opponent or taking another turn. Once a player reaches 7 points in their hand, they may announce either a Stop or a Last Chance. If they say Stop, all players score the points on their cards. If they say Last Chance, they’re betting that after one last round they will have the most points. If their bet is won they get bonus points! The game is played in rounds until one player reaches the required number of points for victory.

Review: Fun game, cool artwork, card quality could be better - Love this game. The box is small and portable to go anywhere. The origami artwork is unique and cute. It didn't take too long to learn, and the deck includes quick reference cards that are helpful in remembering what bonus each type of pair gives you. It's a game I would classify as pretty quick to learn, takes a little longer to master. I'm still getting my head around different strategies, like when to hold cards and try to build up a higher score, and when to end the round as soon as possible, when to best play pairs for bonuses, etc. That keeps it interesting to me. Strategy affects the game, but so does the cards you get, so there's a nice balance and variation in play and who wins. An aspect I found neat is that the cards include symbols for the colors - great for those with color vision impairment or even playing in low light to distinguish between similar colors. (I was tickled just to learn about that symbol system and piece together how it worked, which I didn't know before getting this game.) My one gripe about this game is the quality of the cards. They are thin and cheap-feeling, and even feel like they aren't consistent thickness (it could just be that with the low quality, if some happen to have gotten more play that the wear or thickening edges is more noticeable.) I especially notice it after playing something like Shifting Stones, which every time I play I marvel at the well-made components, how good and durable the cards feel in my hands and look like new even after many plays. Pandasaurus has some interesting and unique games, many are small and portable, I'm a fan of them overall. The Mind by them is also in a small box, and the cards are good quality. So perhaps Sea Salt and Paper was an earlier one in their catalog and they are improving as they go. I would love to see them come out with an updated edition with better card stock. It's a great game at a pretty low price point (low enough I still feel like it was worth what I paid for it) and it would be worth upping the price a couple bucks and improving the quality of the cards.
Review: Great all around game - This game is so CUTE! And if you're a man, it's so FUN too. The art is so cool. Origami type art on each card. Scenes and quality is great. The actual game is fairly straightforward but I did have to read the instructions through twice to make sure I understood. My 8 year old can play it without a problem. Super nice box and small enough to stow in the car, purse, diaper bag, etc to take anywhere and play on the go! Keeps kids entertained at restaurants and outings - even my younger ones because they love looking at the cards

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Fantastic card game - easy to learn, with lots to think about
*by L***N on January 12, 2024*

Easy to teach, easy to play, but with lots of good decisions. I took this to Christmas with my in-laws and it was a huge hit. They generally like card games, but the response on this one was very positive. My niece is 11 and she was not just able to learn it, but she smoked us all. This is such an easy recommendation for just about anyone, especially for the price. Read on if you'd like a description of the game: Sea Salt and Paper is a fairly easy game to teach. It's a draw and discard game (like Rummy) where you draw two cards and discard one, OR take one from one of the two discard piles. This gives the players a number of interesting decisions. Do you take a discard that you know you can use, or take a chance on the draw? Do you need to draw so that you can discard and cover up a card that the person to your left really wants (and the person to your right should never have discarded in the first place)? That cards come in two main types: The first type you can lay a pair of the same kind in front of you to score a single point and do a special power, which will always result in gaining another card. Where you get that card from is determined by the type of card laid down. The other type of card scores you points - lots of points - in a set collection way. So you're constantly balancing collecting cards that will get you more cards and cards that get you more points. It is a great design. Each hand is played until someone declares that they have 7 or more points by either saying "STOP" (everyone gets the points in hand and on table) or "LAST CHANCE". Last chance gives every other player one more turn to exceed the points of the calling player. If the calling player has the most points after the extra turn is taken, then they receive their points plus a (usually small) color bonus, while all other players just get their color bonus. Knowing when to call stop and when to call last chance is a critical part of the game, and adds a lot of excitement. Play hands until one player exceeds a point threshold that depends on number of players, and player with the most points wins.
