The Complete Gardener: A Practical, Imaginative Guide to Every Aspect of Gardening

I (and probably you) know Monty Don as lead presenter of BBC's Gardeners' World. As a 'gardener' starting out I have learned a lot from watching him. Not only is he obviously a keen, experienced and astute gardener but he also has obvious vision on what gardening is and what the role of a gardener is. Through this book you get a more complete handle on gardening but also this vision. I especially like the way his gardening is 'organic', not because it is a trend or the politically correct thing to do but because it is the common sense approach. His writing is lucid and pleasant with the occasional dab of wry humour. Being a high profile figure he gets a lot of attention. Looking around it is not hard to find critique but to my eyes it often looks like petty backlash. Monty Don is a passionate gardener that has a lot to give to everyone with a developing passion. This book is complementary to watching him on television and I enjoyed every page I read.

I really like this book for many reasons. The first, is because it is another chance to get a glimpse into the mind of my gardening guru - Monty Don. I absolutely love reading his books and this is no different. His prose is warm, homely and inspiring. It is full of practical advice on how to grow organically covering topics such as composting, plant propagation, structuring your garden, flowers, herbs, fruit and veg to name a few. In addition, it has loads of beautiful photos relating to the topics he is talking about. This is a book that both novices and experienced gardeners alike will both enjoy, they may take different things from it, but it has something in it for everyone. Therefore, it is a must have on every gardeners bookshelf. I cannot recommend this highly enough. A book you will treasure forever.

This book is a lovely mix of gardening knowledge which is well written in easy to understand language combined with autobiographical anecdotes which make it an interesting & enjoyable read.

Great book only got more into gardening in the last few years. Monty's book was great really well written with so much info about the seasons & growing fruit & veg. Alittle expensive but you get what you pay for.

It is a good book for beginners to gardening. Beautifully written and super photos. Would have liked a bit more detail on growing fruit and veg but overall I'm enjoying it as a reference book that is not too serious with rules.

Very usefull book. At the same time very entertaining written by a very knowledgable, Nice and modent You feel as If you are inside Monty Dons fantastic garden. He shares with you his great knowledge about plants and how to grow them and his excitement about Nature. A tremendous amount of practical information, all presented in a simple sympathetic manner. He has been a great inspiration for me.

Excellent and well illustrated Gardening reference book. It is also a pleasant book to read through the dark and cold Winter months. Makes you look forward to the Spring and getting out in the garden again - Just what's needed in these difficult times

This book is a must for every Gardner. The book gave us many new ideas on our yard and park. Saw the book (German version) while strolling through Esslingen on the Rhine in a bookshop during an early April evening stroll. Wrote down the title and searched for it. A few days later, I ordered both versions through AMAZON, and since then, never regretted ordering them. Ordered the book in English and German, - my wife and I (German-American couple) are freelance translators, and are always on the lookout for new terminology and ideas. If questions: [email protected] . The book is a very good help to anyone, I want to repeat, anyone starting or planning to do some light and if necessary excessive yard-work. Beginners, as well as professionals gain from this accumulated knowledge. This book is like the Bible of Gardening. A must for every beginner respectively professional gardner.

I will consult this book whenever I garden for it's expansive advice.
