I think there are three songbird cards. Also a nifty frog card, an owl card ... very cleverly done! Each card has a picture of the birds on it. **Q: Does the lyric supply more than one call for each bird?** A: There is one song per bird per card. I have never cross referenced cards with common birds. Doubt it. **Q: Is this player backward compatible with the cards for the older green identiflyer model???** A: No. I ran into the same problem. I gave it to grandchildren along with a pair of binoculars so they could use both to identify birds in their yard. It comes with 2 cards of most common birds on it and more cards can be purchased. Another item to add with it could be a book about most common birds, but would they read it?
