It did not damage my wood finish but I am not sure about varnish. The treatment is harmful to pets so you need to keep them away. **Q: I have bought this for a second hand sideboard cabinet I bought. It isn't bare wood (is varnished) will this spray still be effective?** A: The cabinet I sprayed it on was unvarnished on the inside &a varnished with holes on the outside.I just sprayed both sides **Q: Can this be used on a wooden picture frame that has been painted?** A: Yes it can. You must be able to see past the existing paintwork even if just a small area and the woodworm spores are exposed, where of course you will apply the treatment. **Q: what area will it cover?** A: Hi I used it on a 3 door sideboard and it covered it OK, but if you need to do again you need another one.
