Learning Without Tears – Building Writing has been a really helpful addition to our homeschool routine. It does a great job of breaking writing down into manageable, developmentally appropriate steps, which makes it much less overwhelming for kids who are still building confidence with handwriting and sentence structure. What stands out most is how hands-on and engaging the activities are. Instead of just repetitive worksheets, it mixes tracing, guided writing, and structured practice in a way that keeps kids interested. The progression feels natural — it builds skills gradually rather than jumping ahead too quickly. The layout is clean and easy to follow, both for the student and the parent/teacher. Instructions are clear, which is especially helpful in a homeschool setting where you’re guiding the lesson yourself. It’s also easy to incorporate into an existing curriculum without feeling like you have to redesign your whole schedule. I also like that it focuses on proper letter formation and writing mechanics while still encouraging actual writing skills, not just copying. That balance can be hard to find in early writing programs. This workbook is a fantastic tool for helping young children develop writing skills in a structured, engaging way. The step-by-step approach is clear and easy to follow, with plenty of practice pages. My child enjoys the activities and is gaining confidence with each lesson. Highly recommend for elementary school and homeschool earning!

I bought this writing book for my first grader. It was recommended a few different places and I'm so glad we got it. It moves slowly enough that he isn't overwhelmed but I feel like it's still challenging. He loves all the little prompts and drawings that encourage his writings. Highly recommend! So affordable too!

Easy no prep but kids are learning to write stories without knowing and they are practicing their writing.

We've used several books from this series. My son has greatly improved his handwriting using these daily and I'm so impressed with his progress. We've tried several types of books and these are the most fun as well as the most beneficial that we've used. He's happy to do his handwriting practice with these books. They are long enough to see improvement, but short enough that he can finish a book and move on to the next one - always exciting! Definitely recommend this entire series of books.

I’ve tried it all and this was the best way to get my 3rd grader rolling on the writing train. This pushed her to expand her horizons, and she actually wants to write now!

Simply explained assignments that encourage young writers. Great for home school writing.

I have used these books in the past with my older daughter, but we had started with higher levels because she was older when we started homeschooling. I purchased this for kindergarten/first grader to work on writing skills along with the the “My Printing Book”. I love how it incorporates the different types of writing from narrative to informational and opinion, but does it in a way for younger aged children While being because of the topics that are given. For example There are children’s stories such as the three little pigs and the little red hen but then there are also topics such as facts about animals when you get to the informational section. It incorporate learning different types of writing As well as educational topics. I will continue to use these for both of my children.

Good resource

I picked these up for some school review in the summer and to address any topics missed during the school year in regards to writing. I have been pleasantly surprised at how the boys can do most of it on their own. It covers the topics of narrative writing, informative writing and opinion writing and how to do it. I can’t say it’s their favourite subject to complete, but as a homeschool mom this product fits what we needed.
