## Description

First introduced in 1924, the Old Hickory® knives are the most venerable product line still in active production. The Old Hickory® knives feature a hardwood handle secured with brass compression rivets to 1075 carbon steel blades that are both very sharp and capable of retaining an edge better than most stainless knives. Proudly manufactured with artisan processes for over 90 years, Old Hickory® has stood the test of time and is proven to be the best carbon steel kitchen cutlery sold today. USE & CARE Please note that the Old Hickory knives are made with carbon steel. We have been making Old Hickory since the early 1900's. Carbon steel knives require extra care to prevent rusting and oxidation of the surface. Old Hickory should not be placed in a dishwasher or allowed to soak in a sink. We recommend cleaning the blade with a damp sponge or cloth and dry thoroughly. Some people go a step further and apply a light coating of vegetable oil to the blades surface. If your blade shows signs of rust, use some steel wool to remove it and then apply some oil to the blade.  To keep the blade razor sharp, use a honing steel, sometimes referred to as sharpening steel, or sharpening stick. After years of use, the steel blade will develop a patina, a darkening which is desirable and an indication of its age. Old Hickory knives are durable and affordable, but do require special care.Â

Review: Put to the test and passed with flying colors!! - This is a great ice pick. I purchased it a couple of months ago and use it DAILY and SEVERAL TIMES during the day. My ice cube maker in my freezer leaks a little water into the ice cube bin when making the ice, and I get an area in the corner of the bin that freezes into a solid block. This pick breaks up the block easily. The handle is made well and of quality wood. There is absolutely NO chipping or flaking off on the ice pick itself. It is sturdy and has held up well under the daily use. I wipe it dry immediately after using and insert it in a cork (as another buyer posted with a photo) to protect hands and the pick itself when in the cutlery drawer. I would buy it again with no hesitation. I would say that if anyone has put this ice pick to the test, it's me.
Review: Efficiently breaks up my ice blocks - We live in an area where summer temperatures regularly reach 105 to 110 degrees, so I always put an ice chest in my car before I go grocery shopping so nothing spoils. I like to freeze water in milk cartons because it lasts so much longer than crushed or cubed ice, but it needs to be broken up a bit. My last ice pick finally broke – I think I’d had it for 20+ years – and they’re surprisingly hard to find in the store. This one seems to be of decent quality, with a solid wooden handle and a tapered metal pick. It’s super sharp and has done a fine job of breaking up my ice blocks. I love the smooth, comfortable grip. Hopefully I can get 20 years out of this one as well!

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good sturdy ice pick
*by K***E on October 16, 2020*

This is a good strong ice pick. Handle is varnished wood, so I would not wash it in the dishwasher. It rusts if you leave it wet, so dry it off after use. Plus it is made in the USA witch is always great to see.
