The Hilliard Ensemble TITLE: Renaissance & Baroque Vocal Music (7CD) - The male-voice quartet the Hilliard Ensemble was founded in 1974 and was disbanded after 40 years in 2014. It's singers were praised by Gramophone for "the superlative purity of their vibrato-free tone, perfect blend and balance of voices and immaculate intonation." The blend between the voices is finely controlled, the tone mellow and the tuning spectacularly accurate, giving rise to an organ-like sonority that is genuinely thrilling," wrote Gramophone magazine, praising the Hilliard Ensemble's four singers, who excelled in an extraordinary variety of music over a 40-year career. This seven-CD collection extends from the Middle Ages to the Baroque, offering music by composers from England, France, Flanders and Germany. Review: Great Price! - Fast Shipping and a great price. Thanks! Review: Great set of CDs - This is a lovely set of CDs spanning late medieval to early baroque music, mostly liturgical. Well recorded, incredible voices.

Tritonus

A great collection
A great compendium of Renaissance music at a very attractive price from the Hilliard Ensemble, a top English choral specialist group for early music.

Brilliant recordings. Digital glitches
These recording are sublime, among my most treasured CDs The one star is for not fixing the digital garbage on the Dufay CD (listen to 'O sancte Sebastiane'- 1:46 and on). When re-issuing I had hoped these would be fixed. Alas no. Recordings are 5 star plus; mastering zero.

First of all, excellent value for money and certainly an important recovery of the 80s repertoire of the Hilliard Ensemble for EMI Reflexe (here published as Erato) comprising at least a couple of basic recordings such as Schutz's Matthew Passion and Bach's Motets (as well the great achievement of the Masses by Isaac and Dufay, and much more here !). We could say, a fundamental record box that we can suggest almost to every kind of music-lover. Not to be missed ! ! ! !
