Dewalt Hammer Drill (DCD799) 20V Atomic Compact Hammer Drill Kit Got this to replace my 25 year old drill, and I am amazed at the improvement. This drill is much more powerful, the battery lasts far longer, and the options and features are pretty amazing compared to what I was using before. I did a good bit of researching before settling on this model (DCD799). It was just a little more money than the regular drill, but provided the hammer drill option as well, which makes it much more versatile. Nice to have that capability available for masonry or tougher materials without needing a separate tool. This is part of DeWalt’s 20V MAX ATOMIC compact line, and the compact size is one of the things I really like about it. It feels powerful without being huge or overly heavy. Easier to maneuver in tighter spaces and more comfortable to use for extended periods. It has a brushless motor, and you can tell. Plenty of torque and very efficient on battery use. The 2 speed transmission is also useful depending on whether you are drilling or driving screws. The hammer function works well, and the drill has no problem powering through jobs that my old drill would have struggled with badly. It feels really solid. Not plasticky at all. The grip is comfortable, the controls feel precise, and the overall construction feels durable and professional grade. The included LED work light is brighter and more useful than I expected, especially when working in dim spaces. Battery life has been excellent. Huge improvement over older cordless drills. Charges quickly and lasts a long time. And it all comes with a perfectly sized case that is pretty rugged. Everything fits neatly inside without wasted space, and it feels durable enough to actually protect the drill during storage or transport. At about $115, it is not cheap, but compared to cheaper drills, the quality difference is obvious. Feels like a tool that should last many years. Overall, extremely pleased with this drill and glad I spent the little extra to get the hammer drill version.
