Is this one big enough to be used as a day pack for a day hike? How do you compare this one to the Camelbak Snoblast backpack if you also have one?

For a summer/spring hike - yes it's big enough. You can store a fleece, t-shirt, knife, 0.5l coffee thermos, snacks and bananas (fruit that is not round shaped), keys, wallet. This is on the inside. On the outside strap you can attach a wind jacket, compression blanket (or your hiking sticks) One of the best. things about the Camelbak is the number of storage compartments so you can mix and match different things for different types of hikes. Winter hike definitely not.

how many pockets does it have ?

There's a pocket for the hydration pack, the main pocket with an additional zipper pocket inside and a small pocket at the top for quick access.

Could this bag be worn under a ski jacket?

It can be but it would be bulky It would have to be a bigger size worn ski jacket
