Only slight issue I have is that the metal handles appear to have thin shrink wrapped tubing on them for cushioning - this has a habit of slipping and has no effective cushioning in place. If you hold them , with the offset leg pointing upwards, using your thumb you will find a small slider just in front of the blades. Squeeze the prunes a bit and with your thumb pull the notched slider towards you ,this unlocks the primers ready to use. I hope this is a little bit helpful for you **Q: Can they cut thru very think branches Thanks** A: For very thin branches, I use hedge shears. For cutting light shrubs with branches up to half an inch thick I use the Tabor secateurs. Above that I tend to use a ratchet lopper which requires very little effort.
