There are holes along the length and you just push a little knob thing in and let it pop out into the right hole. I've bought 3 of these. Very handy and not heavy...can shove them in a handbag. **Q: if you have a bad right leg, which side do you use the stick** A: You should use the walking stick in the same hand as your good leg so that when your bad leg moves forward your walking stick moves forward at the same time for support and balance **Q: what height is the walking stick i'm just 5ft** A: I am just under 5ft and it is fine for me at lowest. I do have two sticks now ordered separately and although described the same and ordered via Amazon they were sent by different companies and one is about 1inchhigher than the other for some reason. They are both ok for me. **Q: Im 5ft 10 inch will this be tall enough for me?** A: Hi I’m 5’2” it’s fine for me but wouldn’t like to advise it would be ok.
