## Description

Fuelled by EA SPORTS IGNITE, FIFA 14 will feel alive with players who think, move, and behave like world-class footballers, and dynamic stadiums that come to life. Players have four times the decision making ability and feel alive with human-like reactions, anticipation, and instincts. With 10 times more animation depth and detail than previous consoles, FIFA 14 delivers the dynamic movements and biomechanics of the world’s best footballers. Players are agile and athletic as they plant, pivot and cut, and explode out of each step. The increased fidelity has a game-changing effect on gameplay. Plus, the artistry and athleticism of footballers will come to life with the addition of hundreds of new types of skills and hundreds of new behaviors. And for the first time ever, fans will feel the electricity of a living stadium as the emotions of new 3D crowds rise and fall around the stories on the pitch. Key FeaturesEA SPORTS IGNITE - Ignite blends new technology with the best rendering, run-time physics, animation, intelligence, locomotion, and online systems from across EA into one powerful, new engine. Athletes possess human-like intelligence for advanced decision-making, players have true athletic motion, and living worlds make the game experience as rich and dynamic as real-world stadiums.Pro Instincts - Players will make intelligent decisions with human-like reaction times, moving instinctively around the pitch like world class footballers. Players will anticipate moves to seal off opponents and intercept passes, skip over tackles and out-stretched legs to avoid collisions, and slow opponents by hooking or holding an arm. Precision Movement - With 10 times more animation depth and detail, EA SPORTS IGNITE delivers the dynamic movements and biomechanics of the world’s best footballers. Every step counts as players now plant, pivot and cut, change direction and shift their momentum with the agility and explosiveness of elite athletes. Player acceleration and deceleration is more realistic with a game-changing effect on gameplay. Players feel more grounded, agile and explosive, and manage their momentum with distinct foot plants and push-offs.Elite Technique - Harnessing the power and memory of the new consoles, FIFA 14 delivers hundreds of never-before-seen new skills and behaviors. Players have an arsenal of new shot types such as side volleys, defections, power chips and first time screamers, and new passes such as touch, over-head, slice and lobs. New behaviors include trapping the ball in stride at pace, panic turns when defenders are beaten, off-balance shots, missed shot reactions, and more.Living Worlds - The world inside the stadium feels alive and stunning 3D crowds and dynamic sidelines impact the experience. Players are also aware of the match and what needs to be done to get a result--their sense of urgency increases as the match draws on, and if a goal is needed, they rush to take a throw-in or corner if time is running down.Pure Shot - Players have the intelligence to adjust their stride and approach angle to find the best position for hitting the back of the net. Well-hit balls feel satisfying and goals are rewarding. As well as quality strikes, players can now shoot while off balance or rushed.Real Ball Physics - Strike the ball with more force and finesse. Realistic ball physics now determines the trajectories of balls in game, enabling players to strike the ball with force from distance, drill low rising shots with accuracy, and blast dipping or swerving shots, just like real footballers.Protect The Ball - Dominate midfield and dictate the tempo. Fend-off and block defenders from the ball while dribbling at any speed. Protect the ball from opponents to control play through midfield and dictate the pace of the match. Plus, out-muscle opponents for position before receiving the ball, then turn defenders to carve out opportunities.Teammate Intelligence - Better decision-making delivers tighter, smarter marking and improved run tracking. Defenders recognize opportunities to provide support and win back possession. Attacking players have new ways to outsmart their opponents by creating space for themselves, running along the backline and checking their pace.Sprint Dribble Turns - Utilize quick, explosive cuts and turns to beat defenders one-on-one while sprinting with the ball. Players can move in any direction, preserving their natural momentum and maintaining possession of the ball.Variable Dribble Touches - The First Touch Control of dribbling varies a player’s touch when dribbling with pace. Skilled players stand out while less skilled players will experience fewer perfect touches and more uncertainty dribbling.Skill Games - A competitive practice mode to learn or master the fundamental skills necessary to compete at FIFA 14. Become a better player, faster, no matter what your skill level, competing against yourself or friends in all-new mini-games.Career Mode - Search for talent year-round with the new Global Transfer Network that brings the world of professional scouting to life. Develop and refine your own scouting network. Evaluate footballers to uncover the attributes of players who could bolster your squad during the transfer windows. A new hub delivers easy navigation, fewer interruptions and live scouting reports.Complete Authenticity - 500 officially licensed clubs, over 30 leagues and more than 15,000 players.

Review: Absolutely Awesome - I bought FIFA 14 on PS3 after being a huge fan of the previous FIFA games and I was extremely disappointed. I was so unimpressed I nearly cancelled my PS4 with FIFA 14. I am glad I didn't. The difference between the two is greater than day and night. PS4 is smooth, with incredible graphics. The gameplay is completely differently, the passing is a lot more realistic and shooting also. You can play a lot of fantastic through balls and go on good runs. I thought in PS3 the defenders had the upper hand as they seemed a lot pacier which obviously made it harder to attack. Also it seemed everytime you were attacking with a cross you scored as the keeper flapped helplessly at it and the defenders were easily beaten in the air. PS4 is completely different, and a lot more realistic in this aspect. There is of course the drawback that you need to subscribe to play online which you obviously didn't previously, but at only 40 quid I think it will represent good value for the year. If you didn't like FIFA on PS3 don't worry, this is nothing like it - it's much, much better.
Review: Great game! - The jump in graphics from the ps3 version of the game is pretty apparent with the first game you play, it looks really nice. The game plays a lot slower than the previous Fifas, due to the implementation of the momentum engine. This is weird at first, but you will soon become used to the way the game plays. It results in defending being far easier, while attacking play seems more difficult - but this just means that it is more rewarding when you score a goal. I found that the players level up faster in this game than Fifa 12 and 13, which I love, because, although I have put quite a lot of hours into this game, I don't play it enough to level up the players a lot when they are progressing at the speed they were in the previous games, it once again makes playing this game a lot more rewarding. In career mode, the transfer system etc. has all been updated, and it's nice and fresh and works well. Great game, can't complain - classic Fifa!

### ⭐⭐⭐ About as next gen as my toilet seat
*by E***E on 10 January 2014*

As a FIFA player for donkeys years, like many I don't expect to be amazed when the latest FIFA arrives on the scene. A game like this can only really improve so much it seems; every year they add a little tweak, or a gimmick, and market the whole game on that. This year it is... *checks*... the Ignite engine. Basically players are supposed to move and act more realistically. Which is the minimum improvement I would expect from a football game really. Anyway. I had reasonably high hopes for FIFA 14, with it being the first on the PS4. Maybe my hopes were set too high. From the minute the game thrusts you into the action, forcing you into a Barca vs Real Madrid title-decider whilst the game quietly installs in the background, you get a sense that things are maybe not quite so different as they should be. The graphics don't look next-gen to me (not that I could accurately describe next-gen graphics, but these look just like PS3 graphics). The players have the same faces they had in '13, the commentary is for the most part unchanged, and aside from Sky Sports' Jeff Stelling being drafted in to try and add drama by introducing each match in Monday Night Football-style, it's hard to find what actually HAS changed. Oh, the crowds. The crowds look slightly more realistic and active - but this is 2014. 3D crowds were around on the old Smackdown games on the PS2. FIFA 14's 3D crowd is neither impressive nor ground breaking. Again, it's the least I'd expect from a PS4 game. Staying on the subject of graphics, the cup-winning celebrations are still hopelessly rushed and tacky. The trophies that the players hoist aloft still look like cardboard cutouts, and the lack of enthusiasm from the commentary team just seem to turn any cup win into a, to use the cliche, damp squib. Why has this not been improved in so many years? There really is no excuse now, in a Playstation 4 game, I expect a trophy to look like a trophy, and not just a hastily sourced JPEG pasted over the player's outstretched arms, a la Microsoft Paint. You may also notice the way the players' shorts appear to blow in the wind now as they emerge from the tunnel. I say blow in the wind - it's not exactly convincing. It just looks like someone is tugging at one side of their short leg. Perhaps this would have been better left out. Gameplay wise, there's not much to say. It feels a little different, as every new FIFA game does. But it plays very much the same, the players move in the same manner and the referee is still a pain in the backside. Noticeably you cannot shoot off-balance quite so easily as the last game; trying to shoot first-time from a ball coming at your player's feet from an angle is likely to result in an embarrassing miskick that trickles lamely towards the goalkeeper. But that's fine. It's realistic, isn't it? Throw ins are a little more life-like, in that your player is likely to be seen chasing after a runaway ball if they are chasing the game. This does occasionally result in comedy moments where the ball seems to have "a mind of its own" and the player glitches out inside the pitchside advertising boards. It seems FIFA's collision detection engine is still not quite as refined as one would expect of a modern game. The menus are a little sleeker, and Career Mode has been given a facelift. It's the same game; admittedly there is more of a focus on the administrative side of management this year - expect to be organising a global scouting network, handling constant emails from backroom staff, and so forth. One welcome addition, it's worth pointing out, is the ability to reject an offer for a player, and effectively tell the bidder "and don't bother coming back cos I ain't selling him". Thus putting an end to any unnecessary speculation that previous FIFA games liked to falsify, even though you knew you were never going to sell him. The loss of an offline tournament mode is likely to disappoint those who enjoy the party-game aspect of FIFA. I fail to see why it was removed, but then we were promised the Blue Square Premier league (English Conference to you and me), and that never materialised either. All in all it appears to be a bit of a "what-if" offering from EA Sports. I suspect it will be several years before the full potential of the PS4 is realised - just look how long it took developers like Rockstar to produce San Andreas on the PS2 and GTA V on the now-ancient PS3. Perhaps EA Sports just need a little more time and experience with this technology to produce the first truly awe-inspiring FIFA in over a decade. You don't need me to tell you to buy it, or not buy it. It's a new FIFA game. Of course you will buy it. But just don't expect to be wowed. This is anything but next-gen.
