Proven by scientists At this moment in time the Philips wake-up light is the only one scientifically proven to work. In order to make the Wake-up Light the best possible product it can be in genuinely waking you up naturally and energised we have done a lot of clinical research. This research was conducted by independent science facilities to study and prove the effects of the wake-up light on the overall wake-up experience. This way we have proven, among other things, that the Philips Wake-up Light not only wakes you more naturally, but also more energised and that it improves your mood in the morning. Developed by Philips Philips was founded over 100 years ago as a company that produced and sold lightbulbs. Over 100 years Philips grew into a global company that brings innovation in lots of different areas. To this day lighting still is the soul of Philips. The Wake-up Light is proud to continue its heritage by building on years of knowledge and expertise of the world's most well-known lighting expert. Light Settings The sensitivity to light differs per person. In general, when using a higher light intensity a person needs less time to become fully awake. The 20 light intensities of the Wake-up light can be personalised and even be set up to 250 lux. Review: Really beautiful and effective sunlight simulator/wake-up light from Philips! - I bought and started using this and the Philips goLITE at the same time (about a week ago) so it's been difficult for me to separate the effects these two products have been having on me from each other, but one thing is sure: the difference they have made in my daily routine has been amazing so far! I am now fresher and sharper during the day than ever and I could therefore not recommend both enough. The streetlamps where I live are very bright, so since I moved to my new apartment I've had to use curtains that make my room pitch black at night. Waking in complete darkness coupled with an overly annoying alarm on my phone (which I, admittedly, could have just changed) made most of my mornings living hell. Now that I have the HF3510 things are very different, and every single day since I got it, I have been waking up very relaxed and ready to start the day in a good mood. I have just been using the standard settings of the clock - it gradually increases the light to the maximum brightness within the last half hour before you get up - but it is easy to change this if you have different preferences. The three natural sounds (of which you can choose one to play at your designated waking time) are nothing special, really, but they are all nice and pleasant to listen to. I, however, have found myself getting up and turning of the wake-up light before the sound goes off. No more snoozing for me, that's for sure. The HF3510 is also great for ending your day properly as it includes a sunset setting which is more or less the other settings in reverse. I find this to be a great ritual to implement, so now I always turn the computer/TV/etc. as well as other lights off 20 minutes before bedtime and slowly prepare to sleep with only this light slowly decreasing the light in my bedroom. Very relaxing! Lastly, it has a really great design and build quality. It has already impressed the few people I've had over since I got it. Plus, it also doubles great as a mood and/or reading light. It is also an LED light which saves you ever having to replace the light bulb as well as being good on the nature and your electricity bill. In conclusion, I can't recommend this sunlight simulator enough. To get into how this (and the GoLIte more-so) affects the body's natural production of serotonin and melatonin in a positive way would make my review altogether too long, so I will just say that it really does. I live in Denmark where we have a long, dark winter ahead of us, so I am happy to have prepared myself for that with this excellent product! Delivery was prompt and quick as per usual when dealing with desertcart. I see no reason not to give this 5 stars. Review: The one I bought was the 3510/01 - The one I bought was the 3510/01 (brightest one without the extra useless features). This is definitely the best wake-up light alarm. I love wake-up lights because I think they stop my eyes from stinging when i have to get up when its dark. You can just open your eyes and you don't have that glaring horrible feeling like someone just turned on a light, because your eyes have already become accustomed. I have had three wake up lights over the years. I've had 1st gen philips one before, then i tried a pure digital, now i've gone back to this one. My old philips' bulb blew and rather than pay for a new bulb, i thought it would be better to get a DAB one, so I bought the Pure... The Pure one broke and smashed. I didnt like it because the light came on too quickly. The light increments where rubbish (dark, BRIGHT). At full brightness it wasn't really very bright (except first thing in the morning when you're sensitive to it) and it was white light which isnt very nice in a bedroom. The new Philips. The alarm is a nice harp sound (or you can have birds or radio), unlike the older model that had bird chirping but sounded like electro-shock therapy. The incremental LED lights go up to 300 lumins, which is actually very bright, but you can set the alarm to light up as much (or little) as you like. The LEDs are warm white, which is much nicer for a bedroom imo. Cons: So typical of wake-up lights (except ironically, because I didnt like it the Pure), it's flimsy build considering the stupid high price. The buttons are fiddly as hell, but you can feel where they are and you get used to it quickly enough, but they're still fiddly. As it happens I got mine for £50 from desertcart warehouse and they did come down to about £50 brand new during the black friday period in 2014. Hope this helps.

This product is fantastic. I bought it on Black Friday
This product is fantastic. I bought it on Black Friday, which makes it even better but I think it would still be worth it at full price. I researched for quite a while before buying this. There are several on the market but with a variety of reviews. It seems to me that if you're going to spend a fair bit of money on one of these, you might as well spend a bit more and get a really good one. The cheaper products are still pretty expensive and didn't do everything I wanted. The things I like about this clock: *Various settings for light brightness *Various settings for display brightness *Radio alarm *Very easy to set *Using the light as a bedside lamp doesn't affect the brightness settings of the sunrise alarm *Using the radio doesn't affect the volume setting of the radio alarm *The radio alarm and sunrise light turn themselves off (I think after 90 mins), so if I'm away and have forgotten to turn it off, it won't stay on night and day *If the power is turned off, it keeps the settings and time (I don't know for how long) *The radio comes on fairly gently, so doesn't just blare out *If I wake up and there's no light from it, I know I have more than half hour left to sleep. Bad things for some could be that it took some getting used to and a few mornings to find the right brightness setting for us. At first it was too bright and was waking him up too early. We finally figured that a top brightness of 5 was perfect and I also have it facing away, so it's not shining directly at us. Does it work? For me, yes. I like the gentle waking up. It does mean I wake up a little earlier than I need to but I can snooze. For my partner, he just really enjoys waking up to a nice soft light, rather than complete darkness. The first time we really knew it worked was when I deactivated it on a weekend and he missed it. I haven't tried any of the alarm sounds, so can't comment.

Good light, rubbish controls which will drive you nuts.
On the plus side this is attractive and looks good in a bedroom and the light works well and once you master the functionality it does what is says it should do. My main problem is buttons around the top edge just behind the light which are virtually impossible to see, barely protrude above the edge and and located are close together. We've had it for 4 months now and it is still a challenge to manually turn on the radio, light or adjust anything. You have to feel your way long the edge until you feel something that feels like a button and hope for the best. Invariable I get it wrong , think I'm turning the light off and end up turning the radio on or adjusting the clock light strength. The radio is a bit tinny as well.

good light, awful alarm
this is a really terrible alarm clock, coupled with a fairly decent light. It feels so close to being good, but the terrible interface and options let it down massively. The light works really well, it's got a decent colour and brightness, and does help me to get out of bed in the morning. Everything else about the alarm clock is complete rubbish. It's hard to set the clock, and the alarm. The radio is FM only, and can't save any channels. To set the alarm you have to remember to press the alarm button *every* *night* or it won't go off. The clock doesn't update itself, and there's no battery for it you knock the plug out so it quickly loses all your settings. For an alarm clock that costs upwards of £100 this is pathetic. For a while I was using this in conjunction with my phone alarm, but after a while it just got to be too much hassle. It's now a glorified reading light, which I spent a small fortune on.

A decent alarm clock but with some flaws
Pros: Waking up to the light is better than the shock of a sound alarm, display isn't too bright during the night, looks nice, good fading light for going to sleep. Cons: Buttons around the edge are difficult to see so need to memorise position or get out of bed to look at the controls, the sound of the alarm doesn't go very loud - even at max volume it is just about loud enough to wake me up and is comfortable to listen to, light comes on very early before the set alarm time rather than just a few minutes before - no adjustment available other than intensity of light. Overall, I like having this product mostly for the fading light function when I go to bed, and I haven't yet slept through the alarm so that works too, but I think waking up to the light is a bit of a gimmick and I didn't notice any difference to my energy levels from using this alarm clock.

I love this Wake up light
I love this Wake up light. Had an older model for several years (which sadly died after a power cut) but this is a great replacement. As the description states it has a LED lamp which means that no heat is emitted. So far I have happily woken up to the sound of the dawn chorus (my preferred option). However this light also has a sleep facility (which my old one didn't) and I'm really enjoying this feature (saves having to sit up and turn the light off after you may have settled down etc). One slight niggle (and I know this seemed to be a major issue for some other reviewers) is that the initial set up is a little fiddly and didn't find the simple instructions particularly clear however once you get used to it (and it didn't take long) - this model is easier to change the alarm, sleep, and clock times on than my original older model (which was somewhat clunky and required two hands (one to push to buttons and one to stop the lamp being pushed off the bedside table). The one-off buttons are by necessity (given the lamp design) small so turning the lamp on manually was initially a little more difficult than the older version - however once you know where the buttons are you can easily do this by feel. I therefore find turning the lamp on/off, alarm on/off and changing settings a big improvement over the older model. This one also takes up less space and is aesthetically more pleasing. Very happy with this purchase.

Waking Up is Hard To Do - but this makes it easier.
I did a lot of research before my purchase as £90 is a lot of money. I am suffering from depression and the dark mornings combined with anti-depressant grogginess are making waking up difficult. I can't be doing with the shortened days, so I treated myself to this clock as an early xmas present. To set it up I simply jabbed about at it, as it all seemed self-explanatory. I'm not a "read the instructions" kind of person! I did skim them afterwards to fill in the gaps of course. There are buttons on the top and a touchscreen thing at the front that makes a satisfying "click" when you use it. I set the time and the alarm time easily; the intensity of the light; the sound effect for waking (I chose birdsong) and the volume it would play at. I also found the clever "contrast" setting that means you can have the alarm light at its brightest, but the digital display nice and dim so it doesn't glare at you through the night. On first use, I was so excited to see if it worked that I didn't get much sleep and kept dreaming about the item. In the end I never found out because although I had selected a time, I hadn't actually set the alarm to go off! (Shoulda read the instructions...) However since then, I have got more used to it and goodness me, it works! The light comes on with an orangey glow that goes all the way up to bright daylight and tops it off with birdies singing. It makes me wake up very gently, opening and closing my eyes a few times in the half-light. The sound seals the deal to rouse me, but even better - the bright light KEEPS me awake. I've only had it a week but I'm finding that my body clock is resetting itself to more summery times. I haven't used the radio yet but I know I will. Bright light is supposed to be good for depression. I am hoping that it's going to make a difference to me. My only criticism at this point (and it's very tiny) is that the birds are on a repeated loop that is short enough to notice. It would be great to have a proper sound effect here, or even the ability to put in your own sound. (Philips Pholk - how about it?) But I'll counter that with the clock's fabulous "sunset" function, that does the opposite of the "sunrise". (Well dur) You can set the amount of time that it takes for the light to go from bright to off. When I woke up in the night, I used it to get me back to sleep and it was very soothing. I am very pleased that I bit the bullet and made this purchase. I never write reviews, so I must really like this!
