Fantastic Footwear!!!
These 11" Paratroopers are the perfect pair for the pursuit of the paranormal! Although in the films the Ghostbusters used Corcoran brand jump boots (also available on Amazon), these Bates Enforcers are more than a suitable substitute - especially considering the difference in cost (which is almost $100)! The built-in zipper makes for quick and easy dressing and removal - leaving more time to gear up with ghost-gettin' gadgets - and maybe a bench test for that unlicensed nuclear accelerator? Nah, I'm sure it's safe...These boots are lightweight and comfy and certainly complete the look for multiple cosplay occasions at any con or costume party. Made with durable and quality material for everyday versatility that includes comfort, traction and ease of use at a great price!

Love these boots!
*Just a note that my purchase of these boots was mainly for style and comfort than for function. So I cannot comment on how they hold up as far as work-wear or day-in-day-out use. I wear them for the looks and the feel.* I have searched high and low for great combat/paratrooper style boots, I considered many brands, including Doc Martins and Demonia (a gothic style brand), none of which fit properly or had much in the way of size options. I even went so far as to import some from the UK (Grinders) but these Bates are unparalleled. They fit like a charm, but I did have to make sure to measure my feet to get the exact right size. Boot sizing is a tricky thing. The Grinders I bought (Herald model) did not fit due to a mistake on my part in measuring; but regardless, those only come in whole sizes and you cannot choose different widths, similar to the Docs and Demonia boots. So I knew I would not find the right fit anyway since it turns out I wear a wide (EE) and not the 'standard' medium (D) width. So despite liking the look of the Grinders just a bit more than these since they are a dull wax-finished leather (satin black) all over, as well as other small stylistic differences, I can confidently say these Bates are much better overall. For one thing, the zipper sides are a HUGE plus, since lacing up boots tall boots like this every time I want to put them on or take them off is a no-go. That could be fine for concerts or going out for the night, but since we take our shoes off in homes here in Canada, forget lacing up 14-hole boots every time you go in or out of someone's place! These are tie once, never again. Love it. They also do look quite nice with the shiny accents on the toe and back; I've come to like it more and more. One shortcoming I find is that I wish they had more eyelets and no 'gap' part way up the lacing, it makes them look a bit messy and limits the type of lacing styles you can do. I wanted to do ladder style lacing but that didn't work out due to the gap (also due to the fact that the laces that come with them just aren't long enough, so I would have to buy longer laces to do special lacing like that). The Grinders were a bit better in that respect. But there is no substitute for a perfect fit, and as someone who wears runners most of the time, these are close to as comfortable as runners. I also considered the Corocans and the Rocky zip-side combat boots; it was pretty much a toss-up between the 3, except for some small stylistic differences; I liked the look of the Corocans better than the Rockys, but to be honest, being in Canada and not 100% confident of what the fit was going to be like, and returns being very pricey, I rolled the dice on the ones that were cheapest in my size (you may notice that they vary in price as to the size, I'm not sure why), so it ended up being the Bates. I'm glad it was. Next time I may try out the Corocans as well, they are about $30 more though. Anyway overall these are a great boot, and from other reviews I've read, they hold up quite well so I'm looking forward to that. BTW, these do not have a steel toe, so take that into consideration. The Grinders I bought did, but since I'm not using them for anything that requires a steel toe, it's actually a good thing that these do not, as it makes them lighter. *Edit - as of Mar. 2014 - I've worn these to several concerts and they have been great. They didn't leave me wishing I'd worn runners for sure: they help protect your feet out on the floor and look badass while doing it, plus they don't have a steel toe so if security had any issue with that you'd be in the clear (I haven't had any problems with that so far). The only issue I have is that the shiny parts get a bit scuffed and it's hard to keep them looking new. That's a small caveat though, and I can still highly recommend these.

Best all-around athletic boot
I purchased the pair on the left two years ago; they have performed excellently on many 15+ mile hikes and heavy rucks while also serving as a dignified and comfortable office boot. For athletic purposes I find them much better than even the most expensive hiking shoe: though they are heavy, the toe box is generous, allowing full use of all five toes. The ankle support is very helpful on longer treks. And because they are paratrooper boots, they manage impact well which is essential going downhill on hard terrain. They resist water effectively, keeping feet dry in downpours and light fording. After the break-in period they are more comfortable than any shoe. I purchased the new pair on the right for the office; the ones on the left are nowhere near worn out and should continue to serve nicely on expeditions for years to come. If you’re looking for cross-country performance and daily comfort at an excellent value, look no further.

Great quality for the price and very good looking.
2015 Initial thoughts: Great, great boots so far! I've had these boots for about 5 days now and I have to say I love everything about them. The boots feel robust and seem to be of good quality but only time can tell how well they will hold up. However, based on other reviews here on Amazon I'm confident that they will hold up 2 or 3 years before the sole gets worn down and needs replacement. I really like the look of these boots. They have a slick and minimalist style and are very, very badass. I ordered the size 11.5 (EE) and they where pretty accurate, just little bit too long but the width was perfect. A negative aspect is that they are made in China and had to travel all the way a cross the globe. Not very Eco-friendly. I'm also not too sure about how well they treat animals in the meat/slaughter industry in China. Maybe this is something that does not bother you but the thought did cross my mind. Here goes some words of caution: These boots are though. They hurt my feet very bad the first day. I could barley walk back home after a 30 minute walk on asphalt, so be well prepared for a very though breaking period. Use a double pair of socks, hell, why not even use three thick ones and grease the inside of the boot with some sort of oil to be on the safe side. If you don't, then get ready to tear some flesh off your ankles. I was stupid enough to go out with one pair of socks the first day of use and I can guaranty you that I won't make that mistake ever again! On the other hand, I have been wearing biker boots for the last three or four years and I know that when boots are broken into they are the most comfortable shoes you'll ever have. Period. I'm looking forward to get to that point with these fantastic paratrooper boots. Highly recommended if you can endure the break in period. Update 2017: I have worn them everyday single day (90% city / 10% hikes) since I bought them three years ago and they are still alive and the most comfortable boots I have tried. I cleaned them every other month and given them plenty of grease when I do to keep the leather in good shape. The treads are starting to show some wear and probably needs to be replaced. A replacement would mean they are good for two more years at least.

Awesome pair of boots. Take on a mirror shine with ease.
The delivery was on time. The boots were in perfect shape. I wanted a pair of boots that I could keep a nice mirror shine on, that were comfortable and were meant to last. I don't mind getting a great pair of boots resoled. The toes spit shined super easy and can hold a mirror shine with ease. I didn't care for the heal material as much but still not bad if you don't want to spend time polishing a heal. The leather was good quality. Breaking them in was not an issue as they were pretty comfortable from the start. I personally like to get polish worked into the leather to get them to break in easier. After two weeks of wear I did decide to get some Dr. Scholl's inserts and they fit and feel like a tennis shoe. I wear them for up to 8-10 hours at a time so I can honestly say they feel great. I read the reviews about the snaps popping off. You have to zip them up, snap them and then tie them. If you tie to tight the snaps do pop off. I guess this does keep me from make them too tight. I would recommend this boot for anyone wanting an all leather boot. As far as how long they hold up to long term wear and tear, we will have to see. I'm pretty hopefull from other reviews of this boot. At $99 a much better risk than good Cocherans at $150+. UPDATE. I have had these boots for about a year. Love them. I keep a mirror shine on them and they hold up super well to a LEO'S life on the street. Getting ready to order a second pair to switch off every other day. Haven't even had to resole the first pair yet. They broke in wonderfully. Second pair actually shined up quicker than the first pair. They look and feel fsntastic.

Finally Found High Combat Boots That Fit!
Fantastic boots! Exactly what I’ve been searching for. Have a large size and wide foot (11 E), a high instep, and very developed calves. Finding a taller pair of combat style boots that actually fit has been a unicorn quest. These fit me very well, even right out of the box. Can’t wait until I fully break them in. Based on their reputation for durability and repairability, I expect these will be with me for years to come.

SAVE YOUR MONEY
Can I give the boots a zero rating? Bates, at one time was a top grade footwear manufacturer. Unfortunately that is no longer true. The leather is thinner than other paratrooper boots that I have owned. It feels like a piece of cardboard had leather glued to the surface and this was made into these boots. There is no storm flap inside of the zipper. My other boots had a thin leather strip stitched to both sides of the zipper to keep dirt out and to a lesser extent water. This pair of boots has none. Even the pair of boots that I purchased decades ago from Montgomery Ward had the flap....and was made with better leather. Granted, that was decades ago, but those boots were the store brand and dirt cheap. The crowning glory, if you can call it that, is the nylon zipper. Nylon zippers are OK in certain applications, but the teeth on the zipper should be sufficiently large to take the stress and bending. The zipper on these boots is the same size as those found in a pair of jeans. A small tag, inside the boot explains everything. "Made in Bangladesh" Odd how that is nowhere to be found in the product description. It seems that Bates, like a lot of companies, is trading on their old reputation.

They’re not the best but not the worst
I had these boots for nearly a year and they did me pretty good. I had a size 15 so they’re really good for big footed folks. I wore them just about every day and even wore them on my motorcycle however I went to put them on today to go to work and the zipper on my left boot broke off. Very good and comfortable boots tho. They were really easy to put on and take off too. They weren’t very good at keeping my feet warm but I was riding a motorcycle in cold weather. Overall not terrible but for the price you could definitely find a better option. Hope this helps!

Best boots I’ve owned!
Arrived quickly and had next to no breaking in period. Excellent value but do run slightly big, I could have done with half a size down

Ajuste perfecto! Comodidad excelsa
Ajuste perfecto. A pesar de que pedí la talla 26 y la que llegó fue la 27, me atrevo a decir que fue lo correcto. Tal vez, si hubiesen llegado en talla 26 me habrían apretado los pies. Tengo ganas de comprar otro par exactamente igual.

Easy to put on
Very happy Easy to put on and comfortable. I have Doc Martens, which I love, but they take too long to get on.
