## Description

From the manufacturer Teac AD-850 Cassette Deck / CD Player During the early 1970s, the music scene flourished. However, most talented musicians could not afford recording in the recording studio or professional recording equipment. TEAC recognised this dilemma and committed itself to the mission to capture the moment with high-quality recording and playback devices. Since then, the philosophy has been to produce audio equipment that offers uncompromising quality and durability while remaining affordable for everyone. Cassette deck and CD player in one device. This combined model supports recording and playback across three different types of media including USB storage devices. The integrated microphone jack allows you to enjoy karaoke fun and play accompanying music from CD, cassette or a USB memory. You can mix the sound of the microphone input and record it on cassette or a USB flash drive. Combination of cassette deck and CD player Recording and playback via USB storage device Microphone input with echo function. Karaoke function (mixing the vocal with the accompanying music from CD, tape or USB). Adjustable playback speed (pitch control). Single cassette deck with two clay heads and one direction CD player supports CD-R/RW and MP3 playback Convenient timer function (requires use of a standard timer) Cassette deck / CD player / microphone. Cassette deck with all core functions. The cassette deck uses a design of two clay heads in one direction for recording and playback. It supports cassettes with normal, chrome and metal tapes (playback only). This model offers all the typical core functions including adjustable playback speed with a control range of ±10%. In addition to audio CDs, the CD player can also play MP3 files on CD-R/RW. MP3 playback, information such as ID3 tags and file names are displayed. Playback modes include program, random and repeat (one title, all tracks or program). Built-in microphone input. On the front panel of the device there is a microphone connection. Of course, you can record the incoming signal of the connected microphone with the device. You can also mix the microphone signal with CD, cassette and USB memory when playback and recording. (When transferring a CD to a USB memory, the microphone sound cannot be recorded). USB / Echo / Playback In addition to transferring CDs, cassettes and external sources to USB memory (in MP3 files), CDs and MP3 files can also be transferred to USB memory and external input devices to cassettes. The files with the recordings are stored on the USB memory in automatically created folders according to the source (CD, LINE or TAPE), allowing you to easily convert digital data to analog data without a computer. Echo effect. The sound signal of the microphone connected to the device can be underlaid with an echo. The effect can be adjusted to two different levels or completely switched off using the appropriate switch on the front panel. With the AD-850 and a microphone, you can enjoy full karaoke fun. (You need a separate amplifier and speaker) Advanced capabilities for recording and playback with USB storage devices The repeat playback can be used together with various other playback modes such as continuous, random and program. The synchronous start function automatically starts playback from CD or cassette, making recording to a USB memory much easier.

Review: Excellent.... - As someone who grew up when records and cassettes were the only ways to enjoy your own music - back in the 80's - it's really good to see that there is still a decent quality cassette deck available today from a reputable brand such as Teac...even though the cassette mechanism is no longer one of Teac's classic mechanisms from their best years as cassette deck and reel-to-reel manufacturers. The cassette mechanism in question here is from a Chinese manufacturer who has been making 'budget' mechanisms since the late 80's; Tanashin (sp)... however, these Tanashin mechanisms are strong and reliable, and built to a manufacturer's requirements, and this one is no different..... playback of a well recorded cassette sounds excellent. The CD player player incorporated into this deck is also of decent quality and sounds good and performs well. The only problem so far that I've encountered - and it's no problem bourne of this equipment - is from those newer CDs that are mastered so 'Hot' - loud and brickwalled......it's very hard to find a suitable record level when recording to cassette.... (for these CDs it seems like -01 works well on the record-level meter).... but as I say, that's not an issue due to any definciancy with this deck...... I've made many great sounding recordings from more 'normal', older CDs. In normal use, the FL meter is nice and clear, and informative, and the soft-touch logic controls for both CD and cassette are good and positive, and very quiet - operation of the cassette deck is fast and quiet. Overall sound quality far exceeds the rather questionable looking specifications...from tape, it sounds sounds very clean, clear, and open, with a clear and spacious high frequency - 's' sounds and cymbals are clear and not at all dull-and stereo separation is wide and spacious - it accurately replicates the original CD/master tape source. It is, rather expensive considering what it comprises, however, when the quality of the parts are considered - especially the quality of the cassette side of this item being a limited 'niche' item nowadays, then it still is to be considered good value for money. The CD player is of expected quality: good.... but the 'cheap' Tanishin cassette mechanism made to Teac's specifications, is surprisingly good - it easily out-performs the quoted specs, and sounds excellent..... any well recorded tape will sound good, as do all of the good quality pre-recorded tapes that I own. The fact that this deck doesn't offer any form of 'noise reduction' for the cassette playback is no issue....it seems to squash tape-hiss in both playback and recording without sacrificing any high frequencies..... playing back my old tapes and pre-recorded cassettes just shows how good and resiliant this cassette medium really is! A great CD/Cassette combo deck... And good to see a brand like Teac still promoting Cassettes...!
Review: I should've bought this a lot sooner. - On reflection this unit is excellent value for money plus it incorporates the media making a revival. It has excellent build quality, the transport controls take a while to get used to but the remote covers everything so no real issue. It could do with tape position settings as none for chrome, plus it plays metal tapes, although doesn't record them. Add that and a headphone socket this would be the perfect CD tape combo. If you have a collection of tapes / CD's then this unit sounds fantastic compared to the only other options. Although there is now only 1 manufacturer of the tape mechanism TEAC have made the controls logical rather than mechanical. It would be interesting to see if this is their own mechanism.
