### ⭐⭐⭐

Excellent for audiophiles, despite minor niggles

*by A***J on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 12 September 2017*

Tiny little thing, about 25% the volume of my old Logitech BT receiver, very smart and well-finished. Sensibly does not include a USB power supply, although it does provide yet another micro cable to add to my collection, along with analogue (in) and optical digital audio (out) cables. So light, it gets dragged about by its cables in fact. The manual is in Chinglish, and I guess provides the necessary information for more esoteric uses such as transmitting to multiple receivers. For straightforward BT reception, operation is very straightforward; you can just plug & play. The big surprise for me (not so obvious from the Amazon description) is that the unit includes a rechargeable battery, supposedly good for 12-15 hours. The strange thing is, you are supposed to disconnect the power supply once fully charged. Thankfully, the manual describes the reason for this as simply a battery life issue. If this is indeed an issue then the designer has ignored a major usage scenario: permanently pugged into a static HiFi (or TV) and mains power supply, as mine is. Hopefully it will not explode. I'm a bit concerned that in current year, manufacturers are still making devices with such junk charging circuitry. Thus only 3 stars. I'm a hard man to please. In operation, the LED is a bit dim, but that's fine really. I'm a bit sick of putting black insulation tape over floodlight-style LEDs on TVs and bedroom electronics. The unit was a bit shy and invisible for initial pairing, but soon persuaded to appear, and now reconnects seamlessly. It powers down after a while of no use, which, while sensible for use as a battery-powered/mobile device, is very annoying for permanently mains-powered static operation. The other reason for only 3 stars.Matched with a Samsung S7 as source, Arcam rDAC, Naim NAC 42.5/NAP 110 and original Linn Kans, this thing sings - as it should! Even with compressed sources it sounds far, far, way better than the aforementioned Logitech - the difference basically being attributable to:1. Moving from Logitech's 50c Consumer DAC to Arcam's £300 HiFi model.2. AptX support. This is a big update over previous Bluetooth audio compression standards. It's still lossy, but with much higher bandwidth. The improvement in audio quality is obvious in every area, from S/N ratio (silent silence) to detail, musicality, depth and bass. With a good FLAC source, the sound quality is awesome. Even streaming lossy internet radio, there's a huge difference. I am getting occasional glitch noises, and I don't know yet if the guilty party is the Acekool or the S7. Will investigate further and edit this review once I've identified the culprit. So, in conclusion, I'd highly recommend this, despite its flaws.

Lip sync not as good as I'd hoped

*by S***. on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 8 August 2018*

I use two of these - one as a transmitter connected to my movie projector, one as a receiver connected to my amplifier. The latency is lower than typical bluetooth devices achieve, but I'd hoped for better. I notice the fact that the audio and video are slightly out of sync. Maybe I'm more sensitive to it than most. It's not terrible, and a lot of people wouldn't notice it. Good value for money though, and no hitches setting up or using regularly. Also good value for money hence 4 stars. Don't leave them permanently connected to power supplies though as you'll eventually kill the internal batteries.

    An excellent piece of kit!

*by M***S on Reviewed in the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 on 30 March 2018*

I use this in a relatively good hi-fi system. I use it as a receiver, taking tunes off my Motorola E4 at 320CBR with optical spdif out into a Cambridge Audio Stream Magic 6 (which upsamples to 384Khz). The signal then goes to either a Myryad MA 500 power amp and then to Bowers and Wilkins CDM7NT speakers - or to a Myryad Z40 head amp and then to various headphones. I'm listening at the moment through a pair of AKG K701's.And the sound I'm listening to is EXCELLENT.This tiny, inexpensive receiver/transmitter is clearly a quality item because I can't hear it adding or subtracting anything from the sound. Keep in mind I'm talking about MP3's, so there is always a very, very slight 'graining' in the treble, or at least there is to my perception. I must upload some flac tracks to my phone and B/T them to this little transmitter. I'm sure they'll sound superb.Point is: if this little bit of kit can hold its own in amongst serious Hi-fi then it'll sound great plugged into anything.*Highly recommended*
