Wonderful gift for rock lovers (kids)
Bought this for my friend’s son who is a young rock lovers. He loves it! Yet, it actually very hard to break and require support from adult to open it. Buy it if you know his / her parents won’t mind to help the little explorer. It’s a good experience. I think this box sets is in good portions. I know there is another box set that has more stones but charge just a little bit more. Very tempting, isn’t it? But after reading the reviews, the version with more stones brings higher expectations. So when the little explorer finds all the stones are actually similar, they become disappointed. And the helpers get disappointed as well (according to my friend, it requires quite some efforts to open each stone). So 4pcs version is a good experience. 10 pcs will be too much.

A Great Gift!
It has been really fun opening these geodes - they all have beautiful sparkly crystals in them. Never mind that they aren't coloured ones, the whole family found them magical.

Smashing !
A fun kit that I did with my son & partner. The geodes were a reasonable size. I recommend wrapping in a old cloth, towel or something like that before using hammer to smash to avoid debris flying all over, also on a hard surface. We used kitchen floor as didn't want to damage our table. Don't go Hammer crazy either, I smashed the first geode to smitherines lol as got over zealous with jammer a couple of firm whacks and can check in-between to see how it's coming along. The book has some nice pictures & information. Each geode was different on the inside. My only complaint is i do find the kit quite pricey. It's a great kit but generally I think it could if been £2-£5 cheaper to make it more accessible & affordable price for those on lower incomes & budgets.

Great fun, better quality than I thought it might be.
These are great. My 6 y/o boy was really pleased, he's obsessed with stones and rocks. I wasn't sure how good they'd be, but we got 3 good rocks out of 4. Looking at the guide that comes with it we got 3 different types too. We used a chissel and hammer as suggested and that seemed to work fine. The more hollow ones crack open really easily, only light taps needed, one of the smaller more solid rocks took a bit off beating, so I did that one. A great set and worth the money.

Ok but could be better
9 year old son was really excited to break open the geodes, he loved the safety goggles! They were quite hard to crack open. The disappointment was that they were all the same colour inside and that colour was a plain whitey cream colour, I think he was hoping for some other colours. Also one of the geodes didn’t have any crystal inside it was just solid.

Buy it! You won’t regret it. High quality geodes.
My 8 year old son had a amazon gift voucher and was looking for something to buy, he had been given the National Geographic rock dig kit for Christmas and loved it so when we saw the geode kit he was excited. We opted for the 4 pack as we felt it was better value (it was on offer at the time) it did not disappoint... he managed to break two of them himself and they are stunning, nicely hollow with beautiful formations inside. The other two may need a chisel to crack. They seem more solid. A fantastic learning tool and A great booklet included. The photo shows just 2 of them.

it's a shiny rock
In 2018, I bought the NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC Break Open 4 Geodes Science Kit for my brother, who had a fascination with shiny crystals. While he was initially thrilled by the promise of discovering the treasures hidden within the geodes, his excitement quickly faded after just a few minutes of exploration. Despite the geodes revealing shimmering crystals, which resembled amethyst to some extent, the kit failed to sustain his interest for long. Alongside the geodes, the kit included a small magnifying glass, safety goggles, and a basic learning guide. Overall, I'd rate the experience a modest 2 stars. While it may serve as a suitable introduction to geology for beginners, particularly those with a curiosity about geodes, its allure proved fleeting. For enthusiasts seeking more depth and engagement, this kit may fall short of expectations.

Fun and educational
Brought much excitement to my grandson. Every geode is different inside and who doesn’t enjoy whacking something with a hammer? Great for introducing geology through physical discovery and being the first to peer inside ancient rocks. Highly recommended.

AMAZING GEODES
First off: AMAZING GEODES. I am so happy with these geodes, I have always wanted to open them since I was a little younger. Before buying I did read reviews and some of them stated some of the “geodes” were solid rocks. The ones I received were all geodes!!! There was a large one, and three small ones. The product did say they would all be large but the product is not always perfect as there isn’t a lot of geodes in the world. As you can see in the photos there is one that is a solid geode with no hollow center, this was the hardest to open and did rip the sock used to break it. In my opinion if you want a faster opening of the geodes use the sock method in the instructions rather than the chisel method. Use a metal hammer, a sock with the geode inside, and a hard floor outside (concrete) and start tapping with medium pressure and hard and it will most likely break open. In my opinion the value for money is very good. I myself adore crystals and geodes and I was fascinated that I could show light to each part of the geode after the inside of it being dark for more than a million years! If you or your child wants to open these up… I RECOMMEND. The National Geographic safety goggles do not fit my face at all, but if you aren’t using the sock method then do use them! The instructions are not super detailed BUT you can always find a tutorial online. Again, I am satisfied with my purchase and the quality and safety of the product. ;)

Pour Archéologue en herbe
Super activité à faire avec un jeune enfant. Il s’amuse beaucoup à casse la géode. Vraiment très intéressant et accessible.
