## Description

your name. (light novel) : Shinkai, Makoto, Shinkai, Makoto: desertcart.co.uk: Books

Review: A brilliant novelisation of an outstanding manga, also an anime film - This was actually my first light novel, bought on the strength of firstly the three Volume manga, then the superlative anime film adaptation. I highly recommend all three media. But to the novel, written by the director in tandem with production of the film. Admittedly, I'm reading a translation from the original Japanese into English, but the nuances of the culture and language seem - to my mind - retained as best possible. I was also unaware of the vast gulf within Japan itself. We probably tend to think the whole country is like the major cities such as Tokyo. But most still have large swatches of parochial and rural regions, where life is quite different, and the main character Mitsuha hails from one of these. She wishes she could be a boy growing up in a city and - in a bizarre circumstance - *dreams* she is. Only then, after this happens several times, she realises she is actually switching bodies with Taki, a boy in Tokyo. After this revelation, the two start to work within this unusual circumstance, for better or worse. Then, as suddenly as it started, the switches stop. Taki is drawn to discover why, and the remainder of the story is his quest to find the truth. (No spoilers) There is, to my mind, a brilliant balance struck between modern and *traditional* Japan, and what binds Mitsuha and Taki, taken to a quite surprisingly *logical* explanation, and a very dramatic situation as Taki, in Mitsuha's body, fights to save the day from a semi-apocalyptic event which is flagged throughout. I won't spoil the surprises and twists which make this a gripping story, other than to say there is a lovely and decent ending rather out of the blue, just when you think everything might have been lost. <3
Review: Great novelization of the film - After watching the movie I had to read the book. This is a great novelization of the book written by the films director. If you like the book you will enjoy the book too. I like that we can read the characters thoughts. Would recommend

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Watch the movie again, but go much deeper.
*by L***R on 7 August 2017*

With all the classic scenes from the movie, written in a beautiful scripture, this book delivers 100%. After watching the movie I was so hooked I bought it instantly. Worth every penny. The book explores the emotions of the characters in a way that the movie was unable to doing (for obvious reasons) and actually helps you understand the story better. Certain things are described in the book that aren't actually noted in the movie, making it so much better. I loved it. If you liked the movie, there is nothing I could recommend more.
