Basically it's a fairly big heat pad that will cover your lower back, then there is a breathable band with a Velcro type material on one end that sticks to the material so you can have it as tight or loose as you need. **Q: What is the maximum circumference it will expand to?** A: It's a wrap belt type so I would say a comfy 38 to 40 inch waist comfy to wear. **Q: I’ve been asked to return this item but it’s been so long ago I won’t have a returns option?** A: Sorry, I cannot help on this question. **Q: a reviewer said these were recalled as they were potentially harmfull. Does anyone have any more info about this?** A: I find these wraps brilliant. I suffer from a severe back problem, after having a discectomy and ten years later spinal fusion, I’m taking painkillers which really help but not enough, so I use Therma wraps and these are great, within a short time 15 or so minus it almost takes away the pain at least enough to enable me to do most of the things I want to do. I can’t use them as suggested by the company so I cut them so that they just fit on my back and use micropore tape to keep it on. I have never had any problem using them and would be devastated if they were taken off the market. I am a size 8-10 so the belt was massive on me. Went half round me again which meant it slipped a little. I need it slightly lower than it really wanted to stay. Belt is elastic which is good. It's a little sharp. I found it irritated me mildly. I guess you could wear it over a very thin layer. Stayed hot for quite a few hours and definitely helped my pain. Much better than the stick on patches as it can be adjusted a little when needed rather than peeled off.
