For the diffuser you need to have one on each floor of the house. But with the spray you can target just the problem areas within the house. Having both at first night be a good idea. Cats will go back to the same place to pee if they can smell their scent from the last time even after the area has been cleaned. As well as the feliway I would suggest also buying something like cat off to thoroughly clean the area their peeing in which gets rid of the cats scent. With my cat she was very anxious and scratched and pulled up the carpet. We have both the diffuser and spray which has helped her. But for her scratching we also bought her a scratching pole and placed it next to the furniture/carpet where she kept scratching. Its worked really well. **Q: How do i use feliway** A: I spray the feliway where one of my cats urinate , this shows her that she does not need to mark it as it is a safe place .I also spray it on my dogs bedding as the cats were urinating on the beds at nightime,now if I come down during the night I find the cats sleeping in the dog beds and I no longer have wet beds in the morning.I also spray the cat carriers about 15 minutes before I put them in now a trip to the vets is less stressful for both of us. **Q: My cat has been unhappy since we adopted a cat who keeps attacking him, will this calm them both down and allow them to live in peace and harmony? The kitties were very highly strung when they first arrived and I became concerned that they may have to go back to whence they came. However, i thought I would give this a try and, despite not holding out much hope of success with it, my fears were completely groundless. Within about one hour, the whole house settled down to complete calm. The kitties became settled and content and much less jumpy, my old cat became his old relaxed self again and, whilst Feliway does not affect dogs,, my dog became much less stressed about the frantic skittishness of the felines on her patch.It really was an absolute miracle and so easy to use. My cat is 19 years old, has lots of health problems...but Feliway spray really helps her meow less. She seems very relaxed and sleeps well, better than before the Feliway got into her life. It has to be sprayed away from the cat, never near them. First time I didn't know and sprayed near her and she just sneezed a lot and didn't want any food that day. You are supposed to use it 10 to 15 minutes before the cat enters the area. But if spraying, very little, on one corner of the next room, it works fine.In a previpous review I mentioned about Feliway affecting my cat's appetite. But it was not the case at all; my cat's problem was something else. She does sneeze if Feliway is sprayed around her. But she feels very relaxed.
