How does the quality of photos on this compare to a sony nex-5? is it worth me changing as i find swopping lenses a pain sometimes.

I am fortunate to be in the position to compare directly, as I own both cameras. All I can say is, having bought the 100M4, I no longer use the NEX-5. Personally I find the 100M4 to be better in pretty much every way, with any compromise needed more than being offset by a range of huge benefits, not the least of which are its size and weight. Ultimately zoom range is limited, but for the majority of occasions when I would be using a compact (as opposed to a DSLR) this isn't an issue.

Which sd cards allow me to use all of the features of the rx100 iv? Dpreview says that only certain cards will allow advanced features.

You will need this one: transcend 64gb ultimate sdxc UHS class 3.

Mine: the finder in auto mode (auto passes from live view to finder) is not in focus but in manual mode (just finder working) is in focus. Normal?

If I understand you correctly then you need to pull the eyepiece out (not just up) and also adjust the focus of the eyepiece. This is all explained in the manual.

Is video sound recorded in mono or stereo?

The moving recording format is AVCHD Dolby Digital (AC-3) 2ch ( Dolby Digital Stereo Creator ).
